We all know men will kick and scream before they actually make their way to a doctor's office for something that's causing them so much pain, but what about the men who outright refuse to go to the doctor's for a routine check up?

More importantly, what about the men who refuse to go to the doctor's to get an STD test because they don't give a flying fuck about their sexual health?

Men mistakenly believe that just because they're asymptomatic, they don't need to consider getting tested.

These are the same men who will gladly have unprotected sex in uncommitted relationships and always take their partners word for their sexual health and history of partners.

Ask a man you're vetting (when you are close to being sexually active of course), how they feel about STD testing? Ask them when the last time they got tested was?

I would say a large majority of men will get insulted/defensive and tell you that they have no symptoms and they've only been "with a couple of people" over the last few years so the likelihood of them having anything is slim to none, thus, they don't need to get tested.

Personally, I get tested everytime I have a new partner without any symptoms. I even get tested every few months in a monogamous relationship, I can never take a man at his word when it comes to this topic. When I announce my frequency and care about my sexual health, I get slut shamed and accused of sleeping around. I always trust later on in a relationship, but verify.

STDs can remain asymptomatic and dormant for YEARS. Men really think some woman they met at a bar two years ago and hooked up with is pure and telling the truth regarding her exposure to STDs.

Your sexual health is extremely important. Always use condoms in the early stages of a relationship UNTIL a man can PROVE with legitmate paperwork, that he is disease free. Honestly though, this isn't foolproof. Lots of men cheat on their partners throughout their relationship and expose them to STDs. These same men will claim that they're monogamous with their partners and refer to the paperwork they provided earlier on in their relationship.

You really can't win. The biggest take away is if a man if defensive or insulted when you ask about his sexual health and history, RUN.
