Very interesting article, I'd almost say it is a must-read for LWMA's. Tl;dr: caring fatherhood and even caring for children in general by males have evolved in many primate species, even before the provider role of males. It is not at all something naturally stranger for men than for women, neither is the father role easily to be discarded in modern society.

It made me think about more than just this father role. Shouldn't it mean that caring, gentle men are more attractive to women? Then why do so many men get the impression that is not the case? (I had the same thought when I read The Mating Mind, about the evolution of intelligence by sexual selection: largely it made sense, but I never noticed, at least in our culture, that intelligent people are considered especially sexy.) Or is it just about men who care for children? Then doesn't it work because sensible mothers already have a partner? Because men who like the company of children are, certainly the last 30 or so years, more suspected than applauded? Has in general the suspicion towards men become so big that women prefer very masculine men because at least 'they don't pretend'? I have more questions than answers here.
