Man, so yesterday was my birthday and what sucked the hardest was it was treated like any other day.

Throughout my life for whatever reason I was meant to believe that my contribution to this world is what I can do for others, and what I can do for my family is above all else.

So that's how I've been living, sacrificing my body, mind, free time and financial resources to try and make those around me happy.

When I was a kid my birthdays were not extravagant or even very special but I was adorned on. As I've grown older I've been doing that for others, be it their birthday, mothersday, valentines day, Christmas etc. I did that because I want to make them feel happy and special.

That didn't happen for me, rarely ever did and yesterday I just kind of broke. It made me realize and reflect on how little I actually do for other men in my life. Men who may feel like me that feel not only underappreciated but just forgotten.

Other fathers out there who may not be told how great they are doing. Men on their birthdays that their continued existence in this world is valuable not for what they can do for others but that they matter in itself.

I'm going to make a conscious effort from this day on to praise the men in my life for all they do and sacrifice even if none of it was for me. My friends and coworkers, the men in my life who I know are underappreciated
