But the socialization of men is such that even a good man – a supportive man, a respectful man, a trusted man – has within him the potential for violence and harm.

So who is doing this socializing that all men are sleeper cells for the patriarchy? Their mothers? Their predominately female teachers?

Make no mistake: When you use the phrase “not all men” – or otherwise buy into the myth of it – you’re giving yourself and others a pass to continue performing the socially sanctioned violence of “masculinity” without consequence, whether or not that’s your intention.

I just posted about this. Feminists don't care about your intentions. They care about how they feel.

What we’re actually intending to communicate when we say “men are horrible,” for instance, is “the ways in which men are socialized under patriarchy, as well as how that benefits them and disadvantages everyone else, sometimes in violent ways, is horrible.”

Is it their mothers who are socializing them like this? Or the schools? What is the mechanism the Patriarchy uses to twist these innocent blank slates into monsters?

And the social script of patriarchy is one that allows men to benefit at the disadvantage of everyone else.

Homelessness. Suicide. Workplace deaths. Education gap. Circumcision. Lack of domestic violence services. 63% longer sentences for the same crime. How is the author this ignorant? That's female privilege right there, to be a writer and not know any of this stuff because it doesn't affect her.

A well-meaning man offers a woman a compliment at a bar.

...

Such a man isn’t an outright abuser. But his learned entitlement makes him potentially unsafe for women to be around.

WHAT THE ACTUAL FUCK???

Here’s another example: A well-meaning man, in a conversation with a woman, talks over or mansplains to her without recognizing the behavior...

Please no more. I can't take this...

We hate “slippery slope” arguments, but that’s exactly what this is – a series of sometimes unintentional microaggressions that enables a larger culture of silencing and marginalizing people other than men.

It sounds like she loves the slippery slope argument because she just set a skiing world record for longest logical leap.

3. The Impact of Your Actions Is More Significant Than the Intent

This message is a pillar of SJW/Feminism. Your intent doesn't matter. The feels of your mansplaining victim matter. Once your intention doesn't matter, you are like an empty vessel. You learn not to trust your own conscience but to trust their indoctrination.

I just. This person is more delusional than a Flat-Earther. Sigh. This is depressing. This is condescending. This is demonstrably wrong. Men have it hard by nearly every fucking metric and she wants men to self castrate their own mind so that she feels "safe."

Fuck that. Fuck her. #fuckyourfeminism

Number 3 reminds of the processes in the USSR in the 1930s. Many people were murdered because, although they supported communism, their behavior 'objectively' benefitted the reaction.

Damn, I hate most of what I've seen from that site with a passion, yet that is by far the worst article I've come across on it. It genuinely has the audacity to claim all men feel entitled over women to a degree, and perform some form of aggressions against the women in their lives. I honestly can't imagine having a worldview that depressing and unhealthy.

[–]Iaboveall[S] 8 points9 points10 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah and the stunning irony is that they’ll have no problem calling out this behavior when incels engage in it.

[–]Oncefa2left-wing male advocate 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

One might call their worldview toxic.

A lot of feminists and pro-feminists I encounter seem genuinely surprised when I talk about the way that feminism sometimes demonizes male behaviour, male sexuality, and the like. "Where do you get that impression?"

However, this paragraph essentially says that MEN ARE NOT ALLOWED TO FEEL EVEN A SMIDGEN OF INTERNAL DISAPPOINTMENT when they are rejected:

Picture this: A well-meaning man offers a woman a compliment at a bar. He has no sinister motive, and he is – after all – in an appropriate setting for flirting.

When the woman rebuffs him for whatever reason (she’s in a relationship, she’s not into men, she’s just not interested), the man feels snubbed – because he was polite and respectful, but not rewarded for it.

This well-meaning man would probably tell you that he’s not owed a woman’s affection; he knows that. But he still feels hurt that he didn’t get it. And that’s fair. Rejection hurts.

But maybe he believes himself to have approached her in a kind enough way that he should have at least gotten to talk to her a bit. After all, men know that being gentlemanly is the “right” way to “get” women, and therefore expect on some level to be rewarded for that good behavior. But if that sentiment drives some of his disappointment, then that’s a sense of entitlement, however small.

Such a man isn’t an outright abuser. But his learned entitlement makes him potentially unsafe for women to be around. And it’s hard to see that sense of entitlement from the inside, let alone question it or start to break it down.

"Unsafe to be around" because you compliment someone at a bar and you feel a bit hurt when they reject you?

How do people who rail against toxic masculinity and stoicism not see the irony of essentially advocating men repress their emotions to a point where they don't feel disappointed seconds after they are romantically rejected? (And if you fail to be perfectly stoic, you're pretty much on your way to becoming a rapist?)

To anticipate feminist criticism, I am well-aware the text makes a distinction between the regular disappointment of rejection 'That's fair. Rejection hurts' and the added disappointment that the rejection was made after a 'classy' approach (basically: hmm, why didn't she talk to me?) and that it's the second that they object to (they say). However, men more attractive than I have plenty of stories of women flipping out after being rejected and demonstrating entitlement much greater than a small, internal pang of disappointment and a small internal dialog of 'rude' or 'why don't they want me, I'm such a catch?'. Edit: One classic example is the woman who questions a man's sexuality after she is rejected, because clearly she is the living embodiment of the love goddess Aphrodite and any supposedly straight man who rejects her must be a closeted homosexual or asexual?

Sure, people should be able to question that small voice that says 'rude' afterwards. But to single out men for this when it is human behavior that also commonly happens to women approaching men, men approaching men, women approaching women is patently ludicrous, unless you want to make some ridiculous argument that somehow this behavior is "patriarchal entitlement trickling down to everyone else" (a bit like how bell hooks redefines domestic violence to "patriarchal violence" that includes every form of IPV except women bashing men). And to then link an internal sense of momentary frustration to a slippery slope of violence and rape culture is approaching gaslighting territory (as much as I hate that word).

It is literally a classic abusive behavior abusive people use to control you by how the phrase things which makes you question your sanity. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gaslighting

"You can't feel that you are just being dramatic."

"I didn't do X you are just making stuff up."

"If I did, well then you deserved it."

In their narcissism they can't accept reality staring them in the face.

I still don't think it's as bad as the one that said it's cultural appropriation to eat cuisine from different cultures. But this one is indeed the level of cringe, misandry and shallow thinking that permeates that website.

“I still don't think it's as bad as the one that said it's cultural appropriation to eat cuisine from different cultures.” I’m not surprised they said that, just very disappointed.

I don't think I've ever been both so angry and yet so hurt at an article I've read in my entire life. To think a large portion of our society hates us so much that they could write this, claim it to be true and use it as a tool to dismiss our pain and suffering is not only rage inducing but cuts so deep we want to seek out our mothers for support while we curl up in the fetal position.

This writer, feminist, woman; is so hateful and disrespectful that she shouldn't even have a job writing in the first place.

I think we need to make a sticky of articles like this, ones that are blatantly misandric. Articles written/published by feminists that go far beyond "men stop mansplaining" and into full "men are trash, no good men exist" type of content.

We should do this so when people come here and accuse us of being critical of feminism only because we are misogynistic men we can point them to that sticky and show them why this sub exists. We can show them why we disagree with a lot of what todays feminism is about without needing to explain to them; we just have proof of what is being said out there that they can see for themselves.

I feel like I'm going to throw up now, maybe this is what it feels like to have your entire being and soul violated!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That is quite a strong reaction, but it does capture well how I've sometimes felt about such articles, especially when I was first first exposed to similar stuff. I've been exposed to so much of it now that I mostly feel numb, although I won't deny the occasional troll still manages to raise my blood pressure a good bit.

I probably would laugh it off if this was just a handful of crazy people on the Internet, like those internet tough guys pretending to be 'alphas' who go around calling people 'soyboys' and 'cucks'. They are easy to dismiss because no-one really takes them seriously.

However, the fact that stuff like this is written under the banner of "The Good Cause" is what unsettles me. This kind of thought is what politicians who at least pretend to care about equality and the socio-economically disenfranchised are now having to pander to, for some strange reason, although the mainstream discourse is somewhat watered down and the real ideologues are clustered on sites like EverydayFeminism.

The worst thing is, there's even a somewhat halfway decent point buried underneath the Maoist struggle session admonishment talk: if you hit on someone, they turn you down and you think 'rude, I did everything right', then you might question that thought and whether it's healthy (alhough I'd say this does not only apply to men hitting on women, but anyone hitting on anyone). You can't know beforehand whether someone is interested in you or not, so approaching them and asking is fine, but when they express disinterest it's best to just move on with your day and not fret about it.

However, as usual with the kind of people who are able to read and even write for EverydayFeminism without wanting to gouge their eyes out after 30 seconds, they cover this decent point in such a thick, rancid sauce of holier-than-thou wokescolding that it becomes almost tempting to go around and do the exact opposite just out of spite. They make it sound like your (minorly annoyed) thoughts alone can accidentally cause widespread femicide. It's very similar to how fundamentalist Mormons write about sex.

I think we need to make a sticky of articles like this, ones that are blatantly misandric. Articles written/published by feminists that go far beyond "men stop mansplaining" and into full "men are trash, no good men exist" type of content.

This content is quite easy to find, all one needs to do is go to The Guardian and search some of the articles written by their resident TERFs. The depressing thing is that The Guardian is the UK's larger left-of-center media outlet and that it actually used to be somewhat good.

However, there would be no harm in trying to compile such a list, preferably from feminists in positions of power (high-ranking and well-respected academics, for instance), to demonstrate to the unconvinced that there is something rotten in Denmark. Such a list would preferable redirect people to spaces like this one instead of more right-wing conservative territory, though.

Ah yes gender minorities

[–]Haloisi 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That website looks like a lot of hate of people they don't like. The article takes a pinnacle of hating men. What a terrible website.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The article is hating men, but under the guise of helping men.

It reads like a fundamentalist Christian tract on sexual purity and general purity of thought. "We are 'helping' you by telling you to carefully monitor and comb over any small thought or feeling you might have, even if it seems harmless, because it could be a temptation of Satan. You don't want to succumb to sin, right? Then do what you are told , or else you are on a slippery slope to unleashing evil unto the world."
