Kentucky passed a similar law in 2018:

It's often difficult even for married fathers to be treated fairly in a divorce. But there's usually at least a presumption that a married father deserves some form of custody, if only in the form of visitation rights.

Unmarried fathers though usually fare even worse.

After passing a law in Kentucky aimed at giving equal rights to fathers, they quickly realized there was a loophole which had to be patched up with additional legislation for unmarried fathers specifically.

By the sound of it, that's what this bill in The Netherlands is trying to achieve.

Finally! Now maybe the rest of the world can adopt this as well. Having both parents is in the child's best interests (unless one of the parents is unfit/abusive), but this is what real equality looks like! Funny how that's not what feminists fight for.

The Netherlands are very ahead of the curve in many things, so it's a hint of things to come, and hopefully sooner rather than later.

Terrific. I do hope fathers actually step up in the Netherlands, and prove they are capable parents. The whole child support is changed, too. Each parent gives each other half their pay, good for kids.

EDIF 1: I was referring to the negativity that society and Family Courts view fathers. I know in many instances, fathers are the better parent.
