Not to mention the personification of toxic masculinity (as described in online feminist discourse) would equally serve as a fitting caricature of black and/or working class men. While this is discussed in some feminist literature, in predominantly white middleclass spaces (such as reddit) no mention of this occurs. As such, misuse of the academic term frequently leads to comments which in essence are a cocktail of racist, classist, and sexist bigotry.

It's even worse than that. There have been quite a few deluded women that automatically assumed I was into them when they teased me. When I said I wasn't, they said I "must be gay". It's really annoying because not only it is false slander/defamation of character and questioning my heterosexuality, but it further feeds into the myth that men are ravenous sex hungry pests out for women with a pulse every minute of the day. It's a double knife edge.

This is just another pebble on the mountain of evidence that the people who use the term don't understand the "academic definition" they so often hide behind and only use it to describe "a man doing things I don't like"

This is one of the less toxic reasons, I remember being called gay because I did not show interest in a girl. It's ironic how straight male behavior has been restricted by people who think they are making life better for gay men.

Toxic Masculinity discussions are carefully curated to put the onus of change on Men, the unspoken rule is always "Men Need to Change" instead of "Society needs to change the way it treats Men".

You don't get to talk about "toxic masculinity" and then insist that every man who isn't 100% stereotypically masculine is gay.

They can because A) Hypocrisy is Baked into Feminism and B) Because they never put any onus on Society to stop treating Men poorly, the solution was/is always "Men need to Change".

Also instagram teenagers seem to fetishise feminine men to a level that I find a tad bit intrusive. It's the stereottype of "straight person goes to gay bar with their gay bestieeeeeeeeee." I'm not an accessory, thanks!

I mean I get it, I too find a iot of dudes unbelievably cute, but if it's not a honest expression and only a frozen movement that happens to not look bad, then it seems a little ingenuine, and it makes me uncomfortable.

Another similar phenomenon I hate is when people say to any male that shows interest in androgyny, crossdressing, etc. "you must be trans". I myself was once told "cis people don't have that kind of dysphoria" just for casually mentioning one time that I have always hated having body/facial hair and shaved it off immediately.
