Whether good or bad we live in a sexually liberal society and so now young men are in a kind of competition to have as much sex as possible. Its especially mentally harmful is the young men who can't access any at all

Theres no "initiation" into manhood anymore. If you look at tribal life this seems to be some kind of common theme present in all: a ritual you go through that you enter a "boy" and leave a "man". Its something that is challenging, done with a male mentor and seperates you from your mother. I think having sex has sort of become our manhood ritual and its not a very good one, its just the best we have. Perhaps in earlier 20th century it was getting a job, getting married and moving out which I guess happened much earlier than it is doing now. Because marriage is so delayed now its no longer useful as a manhood initiation.

As long as we live in this society where sex is open and everyone can see it and where no other initiations into manhood are present, PUA isnt going away any time soon, especially since it does work. Telling boys "dont value yourself on sex" is completely useless when simultaneous conversations are going on about how important sex is and its plastered everywhere. We've all seen that tribe where the initiation ritual is for boys to wear the gloves filled with bullet ants and dance around. You wouldn't tell them "dont worry about doing that bro it doesn't make you less of a man". In their society it does make them less of a man because that's how everyone sees it.

The problem with sex as a manhood initiation is that its actually incredibly hard and inconsistent to get. Most high school boys won't get laid, but they'll be well aware of the emerging "Chads" who are getting laid. This continues into college and adulthood. This is why we have a mild epidemic now of "Peter Pan Syndrome" - young males who perpetually stay living the life of a boy. This is good for absolutely no one, women included.
