Interestingly how they have to end the article with a woman who feels shame... The last bit of the article is always what sticks with the reader...they somehow want to act like it's a problem that men and women face equally but it's clearly not ..no women gets shamed for leaving since it's the normal thing to do within their gender roles, women get praised for doing that what men are forced and expected to do.

[–]MelissaMiranti 47 points48 points49 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Also if she feels ashamed she can sign up. If a man feels he wants to leave he has no legal recourse.

[–]starlight11006 6 points7 points8 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah was gonna say. In this case shame is a blessing because at least comparatively she’s not being forced against her will to suffer the atrocities of war.

They’re likening this weight of feeling shame to like not going to your kids soccer game because you have work or something

[–]Pasolini123 13 points14 points15 points 4 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

You are absolutely right, but I think they have done it in good faith this time. Gender empathy gap is a thing. Whoever has thought otherwise, can see it now more than ever. I think they just know, that you have to bring women into the story, if you want to make people feel more empathy for the problem itself. I know it, because that's what I usually do as well.

When people don't understand how much of a problem this leaving ban is, I say: "Well, immagine mothers of 18 years old boys. They would hardly be ready to leave. Or a old women, who has no family but her son. Would she be able to start new life in Poland on her own? If they would allow the son to leave, she would be able to go with him and he would be able to care for her".

And somehow it "clicks". People who hear these examples are suddenly open to understand the faith of men as well.

(Ofc it's not just rhetorics. It's true and it shows, that whenever you care only for one gender, you actually can discriminate against exactly the gender you want to protect as well.)

This is why I am tired of the bull crap talking point "Women are not taken seriously and it's men who are taken seriously". When it is clear that average men are seen as less than and not worht listening to, I am glad the internet exists. It really scares me to think of what little voice men would hvae if it was left to official sources of news.

Now we can fight back a little.

I cannot wrap my mind around this behaviour.

First of all, to shame someone because they want to escape a mortally dangerous situation is inhuman.

But, even if you are pro-draft, what's the reason for shaming the men only? Abled women with no children can help defending as much as men (and many of them chosed to do it).

I don't often use the term misandry, but I really cannot define this in any other way.

Here's a fucking disgusting thought - we haven't progressed one bit from 100 years ago, when Emmeline Parkhurst decided that men not being willing to throw away their lives was something to name and shame. It makes me fucking sick.

[–]Strikes001 -18 points-17 points-16 points 4 years ago (9 children) | Copy Link

It was one women who did this, and it was because of this:

But as the war drew near, she said, Mr. Klever became intensely patriotic and a bit of an online bully. When she found out he had avoided service, she was so outraged that she posted screenshots of the conversation on Instagram.

“For me, it was a hypocrisy to leave the country and pay money for this,” she explained, adding, “He needs to be responsible for his words.”

Mr. Klever, who is in his 20s, was bombarded with death threats. Some Ukrainians resented that he used his wealth to get out and called it “cheating.”

[–]ThunderClap448[S] 44 points45 points46 points 4 years ago (8 children) | Copy Link

Hardly relevant - here, as a southern Slav, they sadly got equally shit on by men and women alike. One of my... "friends" said "Why are you calling them 'men'?"
It's a fucking disgusting, ingrained mentality of old assholes who think stereotypical gender roles are acceptable in this day and age.

[–]CybillGrodin 24 points25 points26 points 4 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

One of my... "friends" said "Why are you calling them 'men'?"

People who do that are so gross. I even got heavily downvoted in amitheasshole for pointing out all men are men

Aita is one of the most sexist subs on reddit. Regularly proven by people posting gendered questions, then switching the genders and getting completely different responses. I'm not keen on collective responsibility but I wouldn't expect a fair comment from people who post on there.

Data is laid out like shit imo but this table from a year ago agrees, along with some of the other subreddits it overlaps, it's not really a surprise they tend to lean against men.

https://np.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/mw2w3q/oc_if_you_post_on_ramitheasshole_about_these/

https://subredditstats.com/subreddit-user-overlaps/amitheasshole

Edit: A better way to read the table.https://np.reddit.com/r/dataisbeautiful/comments/mw2w3q/comment/gvfy480/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

If you make a post complaining about your wife/gf theres a 52.2% chance of you being called an asshole, compared to the 33.8% chance if you make a post about your bf/husband. At least as I understand it.

Which is kind of funny imo, reminds me that post on Twox where a user complained they got downvoted for talking about their wife but they were actually a lesbian. Whoops!

Reminds me of how women who are victims of sexual violence from other women are routinely ignored by a system that doesn't think women can be violent of their own accord.

So disgusting how women who fled the country are going online to harass that man. As if they are not perfectly capable of fighting.

If you had actually read her reason for it you'd see she released his info because he was bullying others into staying to fight, just to use his inherited wealth to get out of Ukraine.

I'd say him trying to get others to fight while he runs isn't something all that hard to believe. You could be right to be sure, but so could she.

no. As in she did not explicitly say he was encouraging the draft or for people to stay

And just what do you think she meant by:

she said, Mr.

I don't know how we could know if a man or woman sent a death threat.

I don't believe people usually sign them off or anything.

"Just to let you know this death threat was brought to you by a person with a penis."

[–]CybillGrodin 17 points18 points19 points 4 years agolocked comment (16 children) | Copy Link

Source on it being men that sent all the death threats?

[+]Strikes001 -12 points-11 points-10 points 4 years agolocked comment (15 children) | Copy Link

In addition to there being zero proof it was women saying it(as implied by the one I was replying too)men are usually the ones who say this to other men.

[–]CybillGrodin 16 points17 points18 points 4 years agolocked comment (7 children) | Copy Link

The article was about a woman harassing a man for leaving though I don't see a comment asserting the death threats was one single gender, I only see you do that. Though it is baseless to say it is just men who send death threats especially in this situation, I am sure it is likely both men and women.

[–]Strikes001 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years agolocked comment (6 children) | Copy Link

No it wasn't, I suggest you read it. It was one woman, a friend, who posted their exchange online only because he had previously been bullying other people to stay and fight online, just to use his wealth to escape. I even quoted that part of the article in one of my comments.

I don't see a comment asserting the death threats was one single gender, I only see you do that.

Literally the comment I responded too implied that "women" were harrassing him. No one else.

Though it is baseless to say it is just men who send death threats especially in this situation, I am sure it is likely both men and women.

Our biggest bullies are usually those of our own gender. And so far it is men who are giving roses to draft Dodgers in order to shame them. A lot of men have a thing for throwing their fellow man under the bus.

What are you correcting of mine? I used the singular woman, not women, and the article was about the woman doxxing him.

Literally the comment I responded too implied that "women" were harrassing him. No one else.

You said the comment claimed women were sending the death threats, there are women, alongside men, harassing men. You shifted the subject to death threats

Our biggest bullies are usually those of our own gender. And so far it is men who are giving roses to draft Dodgers in order to shame them. A lot of men have a thing for throwing their fellow man under the bus.

Are you talking about historically? As I only know of leagues of women giving roses to less privileged men...

Though again from what I have seen this last month there is plenty of women and men harassing less privileged men for trying to take autonomy over their own life.

[–]Strikes001 -4 points-3 points-2 points 4 years agolocked comment (4 children) | Copy Link

What are you correcting of mine? I used the singular woman, not women, and the article was about the woman doxxing him.

Are you the original person I replied too who said "women"? No, so why are you accusing me of correcting you after I explicitly referred to the person (https://www.reddit.com/r/LeftWingMaleAdvocates/comments/u116aw/ukraines_draft_dodgers_facing_shame_for_not_being/i49s5ns/) I was replying too?

You said the comment claimed women were sending the death threats, there are women, alongside men, harassing men.

In this case we don't see woman doing this and no evidence it's just them or even both. Both are shaming, but the death threats promising to come after him aren't going to be from the women who fled with their families.

Are you talking about historically? As I only know of leagues of women giving roses to less privileged men...

Are they most of the bullies men of this day and age have to worry about? No. Are all cases the same? No. That's why I said most. Not all.

Though again from what I have seen this last month there is plenty of women and men harassing less privileged men for trying to take autonomy over their own life.

And mostly men sending the death threats.

[–]BeautifulTomatillo7 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Do you have trouble with reading comprehension? I never claimed it was only women. But I find it highly unlikely that this man was being harassed en mass online and ONLY men were involved. That is a pretty ridiculous assumption, even if women were only liking comments they were still involved.

[–]Strikes001-4 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I think you need to own up what you actually said instead of weaseling out of it by accusing others of a lack of reading comprehension. You specifically said "women", as in more than one. If you meant more than that you would have said men.

Again studies and experience shows us our biggest enemies are usually those the most like us. Not always(obviously) but usually. And the ones who would have the time to send a threat indicating they will find them isn't going to be the one spending most of their time fleeing one country and going to another.

[–]BeautifulTomatillo8 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I specified women because they are the ones allowed to leave, it’s also wrong for men to harass him but it’s more understandable.

You are projecting and attributing things to me that I never said

[–]Strikes001-1 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

No I'm attributing what you said specifically, nothing more.

[–]MelissaMiranti 9 points10 points11 points 4 years agolocked comment (6 children) | Copy Link

You were asked for proof and didn't provide any, instead pivoting to another claim you haven't provided proof for either.

[–]Strikes001 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years ago*locked comment (5 children) | Copy Link

What're you talking about? We talk on here all the time about men throwing other men under the bus, how male politicians make things worse for us in favour of the opposite gender, and now everyone here decides to pretend it doesn't happen?

https://phys.org/news/2021-12-school-bullying-students-gender.html

https://www.livescience.com/8155-bullies-pick-unpopular-kids-study-finds.html

Then you have Twitter pointing out most misogynistic insults towards other women are usually from other women, and conversations on here lamenting how a lot of men don't see the abuse we usually get and typically white Knight and simp for women against men and it's pretty damn clear that most harrassment one gets is almost always from those of the same gender. Yet now people on here are acting as if this is an Alien idea that needs to be proved?

[–]MelissaMiranti 10 points11 points12 points 4 years agolocked comment (4 children) | Copy Link

No, you need to prove that it's all men sending these things. Otherwise you'd have to acknowledge that it's a gender diverse group sending threats.

Your initial wording sounds a lot like the feminists who say "yeah but it's men doing it to other men" which comes with the implicit "and that's why it doesn't matter."

[–]Strikes001 -1 points0 points1 point 4 years agolocked comment (3 children) | Copy Link

No, you need to prove that it's all men sending these things. Otherwise you'd have to acknowledge that it's a gender diverse group sending threats.

I don't have to prove anything, trends prove enough and the fact is we usually jarrass those of the same gender as the studies I provided show. Why didn't you ask the one I replied to for proof that it was women doing it though, yet the moment someone suggests it was likely men, all of a sudden you need proof?

Your initial wording sounds a lot like the feminists who say "yeah but it's men doing it to other men" which comes with the implicit "and that's why it doesn't matter."

I've posted enough on here, and on feminismuncensored to make it clear that doesn't even fit with the theme of my posts. I base what I say off of one users have talked about on here, and off of research showing women usually are the ones who send the most misogynistic insults towards one another than men do to women. As such; it only stands to reason men would do the same. Especially since we have the tendency to compete with one another. Add what studies show, about how bullies usually target those of the same gender than they do the opposite, and yeah it stands to reason that it's men doing most of the harrassing to other men. Especially when we add in the instances of Ukrainian men currently giving flowers to draft dodging men in order to shame them, and it stands to reason that it's men doing it to other men.

That doesn't mean it "doesn't matter" and I resent the implication of such when my post history would suggest otherwise.

[–]MelissaMiranti7 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I don't have to prove anything, trends prove enough and the fact is we usually jarrass those of the same gender as the studies I provided show.

Usually, but not always. You'd need to prove an absolute.

Why didn't you ask the one I replied to for proof that it was women doing it though, yet the moment someone suggests it was likely men, all of a sudden you need proof?

Because the article itself shows a woman doing it, thus proof is already shown in this context. You made an assertion that the group shaming men for fleeing was wholly made up of men. You would need to prove that. If you want to reword your statement to say that the group was inclusive of men, then I'd have no issue with it.

I've posted enough on here, and on feminismuncensored to make it clear that doesn't even fit with the theme of my posts.

My last part was saying how your words look to an outsider, not what you might have meant by them. I've seen you around. I know you're not about that. But it's open to misinterpretation by people here who would be more sensitive to that meaning.

[–]Strikes0011 point 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I was referring to the threat on his life, not the post on Instagram that the woman apparently did because of this:

she said, Mr.

Sorry for misunderstanding you. I just feel like I was being nitpicked here. Maybe I should have reworded it better.

[–]MelissaMiranti2 points 4 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Looks like the NYT is getting in on the shaming by calling then draft dodgers.

[–]IGotDarkSoul 4 points5 points6 points 4 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Hello. First of all, I just would like to say that I am very sorry about what's going on in Ukraine right now, it's a very sad and unjust situation that no person should ever be faced with. That being said...

I must address the subject of the "draft dodgers" that are being harassed and threatened and berated all over social media.

The fact that you are trying to hold men 18-60 hostage in a war zone is absolutely disgusting. They can't leave? But women and children can and it's fine? Why is it ok for women and children to flee, but not men? Are men not human beings? Sure, men are "protectors" in a traditional sense, but why take the risk when you can just go somewhere else? Patriotism is honestly mostly just bullshit. Our countries are dominated by the rich who don't even care about you.

You are not entitled to the sacrifice of a man's life, and no man should be made to feel guilty about valuing the only thing they have. Society isn't what it used to be, it's no longer worth fighting for! Men are completely taken for granted and just expected to sacrifice EVERYTHING; their time, their money, THEIR LIVES... for what? For YOU? Someone they don't even know? Someone who's never done anything for them? For a map? There are more important things than what a map says, and these men know that, that's why they are leaving! They are obviously not even appreciated in their own country, why would they fight for it? There is nothing to gain in war, "glory" is an illusion perpetuated by the elites to get you to do their bidding.

If you feel like a war needs to be fought then go ahead and fight it, but do not dare insult intelligent men for making intelligent choices. Fight the war yourself if it's so important to you. What these men do with their lives is none of your business. They want to LIVE, JUST LIKE YOU. You want them to sacrifice themselves so YOU can live. It's ridiculous, it's disgusting, and it's shameful. They owe you nothing, they are not disposable fodder to preserve your map, they are human beings with hopes, dreams, aspirations, and feelings.

They're not cowards, they are smart men who will survive to carry on, wherever they may end up. They all want the same thing as you. If they are "cowards" for wanting to live, then so are you. The hypocrisy is absolutely disgusting and sad. YOU ARE NOT ENTITLED TO A MAN'S SACRIFICE, if you want sacrifice you have your own life to give. So go ahead, be noble and die for your map if you are so compelled, but don't you dare try to shame intelligent people for making intelligent choices.

Again, I am very sorry that your country is being torn apart by war, but you need to learn how to respect the choices of other people. Nobody owes you anything, especially not the only thing they have.

Oh yeah, I'm conservative as fuck and nowhere near the left side of the spectrum. We're not all insane fuckwits.

As much as we'd like to cherish the Ukrainians as the Good GuysTM, they're not. They're just much better people than Putin and his wretched clique, which is... not impressive.

I don't know where you're from, but I doubt it would be any better in your country, whichever it is. The idea of men being obliged to fight and defend their country is deeply ingrained everywhere.

Yes, when push comes to shove most countries will do the same. With the UK going the way it is, I’d rather go prison or die than fight for it.

Quite. Never claimed otherwise; I have zero respect for my country's government (still > Putin, though that might just be lack of opportunity)

I'm not sympathetic towards the modeling guy sry not sry, he reminds of any other rich asshole throughtout the history shaming and encouraging poor men to die while fleeing. He's like the right wingers who are always like "masculinity brrrrr" shaming men for acting feminine while being the ones who are by far the least masculine men. Yes I'm talking about Ben Shapiro, he reminds me of him

I mean your comment has kinda proven that "masculinity" is defined on a whim by women, if anything at all. It feels like you are shaming a man for not being masculine whilst also making it clear you don't like right-wingers who focus on masculinity. Am I missing something, because to me the comment "shaming men for acting feminine while being the ones who are by far the least masculine men" has a certain amount of, as you call it, "masculinity brrrrr" behind it.

I'm curious as to how Ben Shapiro is the least masculine of men? I know this is a left-wing sub but it would be nice to be able to look at men on the right of politics as human beings too, not just through the ideologic lenses we all have.
