People that brag too much are typically the ones that want respect or admiration for doing a very small amount of good, those are the people that volunteer just for facebook pics and people telling them what a good person they are.
That said, A LOT of us respect our veterans, those that don't are more than welcome to fuck off, they aren't worth listening to. It's been my experience that most veterans don't want to be thanked for their service, not because they have been made to feel bad about serving, but because they don't see themselves as heroes, they just say they were doing their job. The truly selfless people in this world just wish for the betterment of humanity, they see a problem and do what they can to fix it.

You can celebrate or criticize the reasons for war separately from those fighting in it. The hardships endured, for whatever reason, even certain training, is what soldiers often bond over - and it's why soldiers from different countries often feel a bond with one another.
That plus your comment shows how out of touch you are with actual conflict. It's literally a small handful that do anything like that.

Well said. It may be an unpopular opinion here, but I believe many men would thrive in a family situation with a wife and kids.
Unfortunately we know the deck is stacked against us when it comes to marriage and divorce. The state turned marriage into servitude and new wave feminism turned equality into “rules for thee, but not for me” where a man can be taken down just at the word of a woman with no proof and no interest in finding the truth. Look at the changes to Title 9 under the Obama administration. Men could be railroaded without evidence based solely on accusation. Colleges given the power to be judge jury and executioner to males accused of sexual assault. He literally lowered the burden of proof in cases of sexual assault from beyond a reasonable doubt to preponderance of evidence. I personally have a friend who’s life was altered by that policy. We all knew it was a false charge. He lost his scholarship and now he works in a blue collar job going nowhere.
I heard a quote not too long ago that I really liked: “women raise boys and men raise men.” That really hit home for me because I think it perfectly encapsulates a problem we face in modern western society. The laws are such that men are only “kept” in a marriage based on their loyalty to a woman. She can choose (and does 80% of the time) to leave and still collect resources from the man. Men get a sense of worth raising a family and providing for a woman that is good. Too bad even the “good” ones understand they can pull the ripcord at any time with no consequences.
Children need fathers as much as, if not more than, they need mothers. Boys need to learn to be men from good men. Too little of that and you see a large population of boys raised by single mothers and then going to school where they are educated by women that have been indoctrinated to believe that masculinity is toxic and boys should be controlled. They fail to develop toughness and never understand the satisfaction of a hard days work.
Girls need fathers to show them how a good man should treat them. Without a man that is good early in life they spend a lifetime looking for that father figure with many mistaking love for money and resources. Just look at the rates of divorced women that are daughters of divorced women. It’s a runaway train that will never get better as long as the government steps up as a substitute for a man or forces the man by gunpoint to pay up or be thrown in jail. Why wouldn’t a woman pull the pin on a marriage at the first sign of struggle? There is literally no downside for her. That ripple effect leads to a multi-generational breakdown.
This is why it is so important for men to find a purpose within themselves. As you said, idle hands lead to problems. Boys join gangs because they seek masculinity in their life, but that unfortunately is the lowest common denominator and leads them down a path of crime. Or you have men that lead a quiet sad life working check to check and never truly living.
It is important for us men to find responsibilities to something beyond ourselves. If you’re lucky you find that purpose. Maybe it is volunteering like the man in the post above. I personally enjoy trail building and I work as part of a video production team for live sports. I own my home and I’ve never been married. It’s difficult to do, but when you find that purpose it will make you whole. Once you have it, you no longer need to seek external validation and that is the true key to happiness.

Yeah I definitely agree with you on that. But I dont wanna facilitate someones accidental overdose. I'd rather they live miserably. Most of them have a proclivity to abuse drugs. Especially since theres such a bad opioid crisis out there.
Fucking Chinese fentanyl has claimed somany lives already.
I'm on the extreme other end personally. A final overdose might be the kindest gift they have been given in a long while. And I don't mean that just for the unfortunate homeless. I've always thought that as a first world nation we were needlessly cruel by denying voluntary euthanasia to those that wish it. No matter the station they hold in life.

There are charities which provide homeless people with basic necessities. Like this man for example. I'd rather fund the charities and men like him than give money to the homeless. Unpopular opinion but fuck the homeless in general. Maybe because I have seen them partially destroy Seattle my opinion is skewed but more likely then not the homeless want a free ride so they can continue to use drugs.
The guy has a great heart but it should be put elsewhere imo. The people who are temporarily homeless find a way to get on their feet but the career homeless need to be left to die imo.

I totally agree. They're homeless for a reason, and I'd say 95% of the time they are drug addicts who will do, steal, and say anything to fuel their addiction.
I had to learn the hardway. Owned a decent rental house and a church charity approached me to house a homeless man. They would pay the first few months rent while he "gets back on his feet". OK. Naive me believed his and the church's 100% made up sob story. What do I got to lose right?
Long story short it became a complete nightmare as he stripped the house of all its electrical for the copper. Sold or stripped all my appliances. Broke almost all the windows. All the other homeless in town quickly moved in. Some with kids. Babies even. (side rant but where the hell is social services on this?) It took a year and a half to evict those fuckers because of all the legal loopholes and technicalities and "squatters rights".
I've always been somewhat liberal and open minded but that experience changed me. They will destroy whoever will try to help them and then when that's exhausted they will move on to the next nieve victim.

Most of them have mental issues and addiction and some of them have been screwed REALLY bad by the VA. Some of the stories i have read about what the VA has done to people almost defies belief.
I wouldn't go quite that far. Like you i have been around the homeless and awful lot and most of them are mentally ill. People focus on drug use, but given what i have seen i'm not entirely convinced drugs are the problem. I think the people who become addicted to them have the problem. Just because they're mentally ill i'm not going to give them a pass on their shitty behaviour though.
I've seen it up close and in many cases its disgraceful. I used to work in a building the homeless had basically taken over and they were injecting in the stairways, sleeping, using the chute rooms as a toilet and kept knocking on peoples doors asking for medication and food/drink. Likewise the street outside of another place i used to work they were fighting and causing trouble all the time because there was a pay phone in the road that was used for ordering drugs.
It's a lot more than the homeless that is destroying the left coast.
