It's all in that last sentence. She is desperately trying to avoid the feelings of shame (as all women do). They don't really avoid the actions that lead to shame, they just try to avoid the shame.

Since she wants to avoid feeling ashamed she doesn't want any other women to feel ashamed for doing the same thing.
