They used to send boys down the mines too, to get to places too small for adults.
Sometimes the boys would get lost and never be seen again.
I remember I read about one boy's skeleton that was found at the bottom of an air shaft..he'd managed to find his way there but died without anyone ever hearing his cries for help.
But hey..that's male privilege for you.

Men and boys were also killed and dismembered in factories, factories with massive death traps. Of course, the dismembered ones were just dismissed without compensation.
It was not until women got hurt that the government introduced safety acts that still exist to this day - yes because men are and always have been disposable, whereas women on the other hand must be protected - damn patriarchy.
[–]parabola198452 points53 points54 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Right on about how things don't change unless it affects women.

unions were a pretty good idea
[–]mentalidade_logica20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
At the time yes. Now, they are just another bureaucratic layer that fights for their own survival.
[–]americanomad14 points15 points16 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed. At one time, they were needed. Now, they’ve become a Democrat-party funding sham with a leadership that is filthy rich and far removed from the everyday laborers the unions ostensibly look out for.
[–]thedeedsmaster11 points12 points13 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
depends on the union. but most large unions do fit that description

"But blame men for that. Men make these rules that fuck us over."
To some degree yes but let's not underestimate the women behind those men who make those decisions. No decision, no sex, more nagging, so what is a poor honey-pot worshiper to do?
Watch a rally and tell me who is in charge, the driver or the one who tells beforehand how, when, where to go?
You don't have to sit on the driver's seat to be in charge. In a business word, every good administrator knows that his board will pass or not, whatever that administrator wants, the board just makes the final decision.
A marriage is exactly the same thing, she decides but he approves it (no choice really).
[–]HoshToshMcGosh1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Actually it was because of Upton Sinclair's "The Jungle" that attention was brought to the cruel working conditions and regulations were set in place to prevent health violations, not women. Good try though.
[–]mentalidade_logica2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
There is no denying that his fictional novel had an impact on society and as a result new laws were created. However, the primary goal of those laws was to protect the public of what they were eating, like no human fingers or arms, etc. It was not to protect male workers.
"A law is needed which will enable the inspectors of the [Federal] Government to inspect and supervise from the hoof to the can the preparation of the meat food product.", President Roosevelt.

Did girls not also get sent down the mines, or have I been fed propaganda?
[–]that_nast28 points29 points30 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Why would they? They weren't strong enough, couldn't last under the conditions, and would likely nag the whole time. Also, they were likely getting knocked up at 14 and/or married off and taking care of the domestic front so it was mostly boys and men that got sent down. Look up the origins of the phrase "Grease Monkey"....hint monkeys are small and can fit into tight spaces.

Seems you are absolutely right. Here are some quotes:
Mary Davis was a 'pretty little girl' of six years old. The Government Inspector found her fast asleep against a large stone underground in the Plymouth Mines, Merthyr. After being wakened she said: 'I went to sleep because my lamp had gone out for want of oil. I was frightened for someone had stolen my bread and cheese. I think it was the rats.'
Susan Reece, also six years of age and a door keeper in the same colliery said: 'I have been below six or eight months and I don't like it much. I come here at six in the morning and leave at six at night. When my lamp goes out, or I am hungry, I run home. I haven't been hurt yet.'
I don't know what the ratio of boys to girls was though.
[–]octopusdixiecups5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes girls absolutely went into the mines as did adult women. I don’t understand why everyone is so set on denying such
[–]jonnytechno2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If we're talking about coal mining in Europe during the industrial revolution, women did, in fact work in the galleries too. Only young & healthy women tho, as most of other women were in charge of sorting coal from stone at the entrance of the mines.

While fucking your neighbor and blaming it on you for not giving her enough attention.
Happened to a close friend of mine. Super shitty. He worked really hard, at a mine, many hours to give her and the kids a great home, new car and pay for all the food.
She. Was a stay at home mom whose kids went to school during the day. The house was always a mess. He always complained about food never being made when he got home. She provided nothing to the family. He was the one who got up to help the kids get ready before rushing off the work. The bus picked them up, so she didn’t have to go anywhere
Anyways the end of the story was he caught her via text messages she forgot to delete. Neighbor was coming over right when the bus left.
Oh. They are divorced now. She kept the kids and the home her new car and he’s still paying for it.

I've got a friend who went through a very similar process, and another that didn't cop it quite as bad but still lost out financially. I think there'd be plenty of guys in this sub who have been shafted during the divorce process, and plenty more guys who know someone who has. You see it happen a few times and you wonder why any guy would sign up to get married when they can lose 3/4 of their possessions and the fruits of the last 10,15,20 years of their life at the hands of some judge.

The only real privilege that exists is to have a vagina belonging to an average looking female. One that neither looks obese, manish, handsome, nor freakish in some way. And that exists for only a short period of time necessary to pop out some spawn.
But somehow radical fembots have convinced these average young bimbetts to waste their younger "privileged" years being liberated, uglying themselves up and generally looking and acting like the local tavern wenches sent out to greet and appease invading hordes of sea-worn marauders.
