Even if the products are identical, which I doubt they are, there are legitimate reasons for making the "for men" cheaper.

For example, let's suppose that you do some market research and find out that a lot of men don't mind dandruff that much and they are cheap when it comes to buying shampoo. So think that you can sell 1000 bottles a month for $10 but you can sell 1300 a month at $9. It costs $3 to produce and sell a bottle. ($10-$3) * 1000 = $7000 profit. ($9-$3) * 1300 = $7800 profit. So you should lower the price. If women, are more concerned about appearance and less about price, then there is no reason to lower the price for their shampoo.

In other words: A smart company will charge what makes them the most money. If a particular demographic is willing to pay more, then whose fault is it when the company charges them more?

They call it "the pink tax". They say when a razor is pink it costs more. I ask if it does the same thing as the less expensive razor they are comparing it to. They say yes, it's the same. They do not see why they pay more. It's because you buy the expensive one knowing it's more expensive, but also knowing it's the same. Once upon a time Nolreco made a men’s beard trimmer and a women’s body hair trimmer. The Men’s was black and cost 10-15 dollars more. The women’s was a lavender color and was the same model at about 7 dollars. I bought the cheaper one.

Funny, head and shoulders is owned by Proctor and Gamble. The company that made headlines with their toxic masculinity commercial targeting men as being evil just for existing. P&G also made a Venus ad with obese women with Bathing suits at the beach as a fat acceptance ad I suppose. This is no different than any other specialized demographic. For example, I am a cyclist. A ton of "cycling specific" apparel/products are no different than "generic" products but have a higher price tag simply because cyclists, as a whole, are willing to pay more for a "perceived value" of a specialized product. The best example of this is chamois creame or "butt butter." I just buy baby rash stuff, which has the same ingredients and is 1/3 cheaper.
