Even though I never got a job in marketing and would rather gouge out my eyeballs than actually work in that field, having done a minor in marketing was probably my smartest decision throughout college. It's crazy seeing how people still keep falling for the most basic tricks.

Vosene shampoo no longer belongs to P&G and is a good medicated shampoo, although, if you want to avoid giving money to any massive corporation, you could always find any generic coal tar smapoo. That's what I use and it's effective at treating dandruff, and I gather, scalp psoriasis.
[+][deleted] 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
[–]DrFeelFantastic8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
It's kinda odd that you've only made three comments on your account, and two of them are about drinking water to help dandruff, lol..

[–]Hallitsijan18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link
Point is that Vosene is no longer P&G owned (and hasn't been for 15 years), not that P&G is now acceptable.
https://www.campaignlive.co.uk/article/procter-gamble-sells-six-wella-brands-lornamead/478936?src_site=brandrepublic
The Lornamead Group, manufacturer of home and personal care products, has acquired six Wella consumer brands from Procter & Gamble, including Vosene and Bristows, in a move to own under-exploited consumer brands.
Lornamead has in turn been bought by Li & Fung in 2012/2013. Chinese giant which also has nothing to do with P&G.

For all we know you're a paid shill trying to make P&G more moolah. No, I, and others, don't have time to play detective and go googling things or peeping your profile, so I'm jus' saying if making such a claim a link would be good.
Ah, right. Honestly man, I don't think you need to be so worried about paid shills for such minor things. As someone said yesterday, we are a tiny minority, P&G's share price has went steady up and up since January, with any dips around the time the advert came out beimg absolutely miniscule compared to the larger picture.

Ive been buying the Dove Men's Care stuff since before that all even came out. Granted, my scalp isnt too bad as long as i make sure to wash my hair (even with normal shampoo) and keep my hair fairly short, but they do have a version with the zinc in it, and it seems to work alright for me.

Even if the products are identical, which I doubt they are, there are legitimate reasons for making the "for men" cheaper.
For example, let's suppose that you do some market research and find out that a lot of men don't mind dandruff that much and they are cheap when it comes to buying shampoo. So think that you can sell 1000 bottles a month for $10 but you can sell 1300 a month at $9. It costs $3 to produce and sell a bottle. ($10-$3) * 1000 = $7000 profit. ($9-$3) * 1300 = $7800 profit. So you should lower the price. If women, are more concerned about appearance and less about price, then there is no reason to lower the price for their shampoo.
In other words: A smart company will charge what makes them the most money. If a particular demographic is willing to pay more, then whose fault is it when the company charges them more?
[–]tralala50141 points42 points43 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]CommanderHeMan13 points14 points15 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Charles Wilson. UK based clothing supplier. I like the quality, they’re not super cheap but still cheaper than buying fashion items.

Im lucky to have a job where it doesnt matter what i wear...so i wear sports jerseys every day.

[–]necropaw0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have plenty of other shirts, but theyre basically all casual. Quite a few dont fit anymore...oops. Some are kinda ripped up, need to throw those away.
I do have a couple of 'nice' shirts, but theyre just decent looking t-shirts and a long sleeve one or two. I wear that in the winter a fair amount, but still end up with a sweatshirt over it half the time, heh.
Definitely enjoy summer, though. Shorts and a baseball jersey is so damn comfy.
[–]the2xstandard5 points6 points7 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I have 3 sets of clothes:
nice ones I have to wear to work, which honestly aren't even that expensive. Maybe 100 per outfit.
A nice tailored sport coat and pants that I picked up in Korea a few years ago for cheap. That I wear on very rare occasions: conferences, events, funerals, meetings with certain clients.
And "I don't give a fuck" clothes. Which includes everything else. Nothing I wear has logos on them. I prefer plain shirts in bulk from costco.
[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
If someone wants to pay extra for a nice smell or more lotion in their shampoo, or a brand name handbag, or whatever silly thing they want, then I don't care. It's their money, spend it on what you want! But it's really fucking stupid to complain that the silly things they want should cost less than they do. If you don't like the price, then don't buy them!

[–]t353tfb1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Hello retard. The evidence that women's soccer is unwatchable is impossible to argue with. Just about nobody watches it, still less pays to watch it. Saying that women's football is unwatchable is as bold a claim as saying that water is wet. People who know football don't want to watch women's football. That includes female soccer fans. Now show me your evidence for there being widespread viewer interest in female soccer.

They are NOT identical, in fact. Female versions of cosmetic products are made with different/added excipients to be more delicate, because female skin has got a different pH, is more irritable & less thicker. I’m tired of these bitches complaining about everything without even educating themselves.
I think anyone with a working brain can see these comparisons are between non-identical products. My point was that even if you ignore the differences, there are still legitimate business reasons for pricing things differently.
[–]Mrnofaceguy0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Also they're different, women's higiene products tend to be softer than men's, since their skin isn't as tough or thick, literally and metaphorically

[–]skeletorcares20 points21 points22 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Women tend to get in more accidents, men tend to get into bigger accidents.
[–]hoss-texas-ranger6 points7 points8 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This is correct. Men's car insurance is more due to this reason. I sold insurance for a few years.
[–]xMB990 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
I think it is more expensive for women.
[–]RealBiggly17 points18 points19 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It's cheaper for women, as while they have more accidents they have them at (painfully) slow speeds. Men's accidents are more likely to involve some injuries, which skyrockets the cost.
[–]Xavierpony8 points9 points10 points 7 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
There's an insurance company in Ireland called "it's for women" it's quite a bit cheaper which is really annoying.

Every driver is different. I know alot of guys who can't drive for shit. I think the main thing is statistically women are more likely to be on a phone in some way.
[–]OptimalAdhesiveness4 points5 points6 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The most accurate way I’ve heard it was from someone in the insurance game who said “men drive dangerous, women drive stupid.”
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Oh I know, driving is to expensive, hence I refuse to learn to drive. Its pointless to learn, when not afford. But get a job you need travel, most ask if you can drive, but get a car you need money, to get money you need a job. It's a vicious cycle. Hence why I'm doing work with in my family and Prehaps a lot later in life, maybe I learn to drive when I can afford it.

I work for as a product manager CPG company that is in the personal care space. I over see a men's and women's line. I can tell you that we don't charge more for our women's product. But, can confirm that the margin is less than the men's product because it is more expensive to produce the women's product.
Even though on paper the product formulation is the same between the two. Comes down to fragrances and putting in more skin moisturizers that women want compared to men.
Makes a lot of sense. Thanks for sharing that. It's annoying that people insist on interpreting logical business decisions as some sort of ridiculous patriarchal conspiracy.
Exaxtly! There’s a real reason why female products generally cost more.
[–]skeletorcares18 points19 points20 points 7 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
They call it "the pink tax". They say when a razor is pink it costs more. I ask if it does the same thing as the less expensive razor they are comparing it to. They say yes, it's the same. They do not see why they pay more. It's because you buy the expensive one knowing it's more expensive, but also knowing it's the same. They are a marketing and advertising dream consumer, wantonly ignorant but still buys the more expensive product.
[–]beatles-lover1 point2 points3 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Agreed, advertisers take advantage of female narcissism and childishness. Women are much easier to convince with slogans like "I'm worth it" and anyway it's usually men's money they are spending.
[–]Next_Flow1-1 points0 points1 point 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
men's and women's razors are very different..... and for good reasons, even the most arbitrary google search would easily confirm this, there is no pink tax, HOWEVER men do pay more to get into cubs, and buy drinks at bars even without the sucker in a room full of cons task

Funny, head and shoulders is owned by Proctor and Gamble. The company that made headlines with their toxic masculinity commercial targeting men as being evil just for existing. P&G also made a Venus ad with obese women with Bathing suits at the beach as a fat acceptance ad I suppose. Instead of placing blame on “toxic” men for the msrp, maybe they should look at the Man hating giant that actually produces the product and boycott the shit out of them too.
[–]FutureIsManAndRobot2 points3 points4 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The patriarchy strikes again!
Well, how about you buy the "male" version then and save yourself some money.
This is what happens when they stop teaching basic economics. The only reason that the "female" version is higher priced is because women are WILLING TO PAY a higher price.
This is no different than any other specialized demographic. For example, I am a cyclist. A ton of "cycling specific" apparel/products are no different than "generic" products but have a higher price tag simply because cyclists, as a whole, are willing to pay more for a "perceived value" of a specialized product. The best example of this is chamois creame or "butt butter." I just buy baby rash stuff, which has the same ingredients and is 1/3 cheaper.
[–]EvilCoyote0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This just proves men are more intelligent. Why would the men's product be cheaper if not for the fact that men are just harder to rip off? The company charges what they can get away with in both cases.

I see your UN is deleted. Don't care. I have my hair cut really short and using H&S still. It does the trick so no searching for bread and honey for me.
Steve Mould actually did a youtube video in which he highlights this price difference. Also, it's a pretty neat video on the behavior and engineering of shampoos.

Most people in marketing at companies like this are women. So who is she really blaming?
yes it’s cheaper u dumb bitch because theres less ingredients that aren’t needed & damaging to a dudes skin that doesn’t need to be polished & smell like tainted roses. also none of that excessive hair vitamin scam pesticide. i was told women’s products are always more expensive & only works half the time..by a woman from the past. nextup their stupid pretty shaving cream & the taxing of fragrance. just because they want to smell good y use only wats needed. whores.

Women don't get this shit. The razors, the other self care products - they can get the same shit as men.
Fucking daft
Buy the one for men you stupid cunt. Thats what it says.
[–]deep_in_my_mind0 points1 point2 points 7 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Women pay $5 or FREE to enter a frat party. For dudes, it's either $10 or $15. Hell, at the university bar, both women and men pay the same coverage fee but women can get their first 2 drinks free for ladies night. There's no guys night...
Point is, ya win some and ya lose some.
What then don’t understand is that female versions of various cosmetic products are more delicate and are made with different excipients, because female skin has got a different pH, it is more irritable and also less thicker.

I'll be the only one to say that this is definitely odd. Unless the female one has special ingrediants for more lucius hair.
exactly they’re allowed to mislead shit in their products to this woman & save the truth for us. i dont mind this white lie manufacturer scam to workout in our favor. after all that lucius hair gets pulled by another dude anyway. fuckem. head n shoulders is a common dandruff cleanser that men deal with more than woman. but apparently burning inflammation on a dudes face compared to just a patch of tiny zits on a bitches body just isnt as serious. how falsely accurate of me.
