If this is the data I'm thinking of, then context is a bit important. Assuming that this was the okcupid data from before, then this is just physical attractiveness. Men rate on a 1-10 scale and are generally pretty generous; even though this was asked as more of a 1-10 thing, women tend to rate in more of a pass/fail sense for physical attraction. Basically if you're not a 10, you're a 1. The other aspect of this is that women will still pair up with men because their primary attractions are to things other than physical looks. Essentially this is why women can see how you measure up in the social hierarchy, or find out what your job is, or see your bank account balance and suddenly you end up being much more attractive.

Our beauty standards are based off of instagram and hollywood. Girls can achieve the look of a model by simply painting her face and not getting fat. Guys on the other hand can't mask shit. Our hair, beards, jawlines, whatever the fuck is genetic. Other than that we have to put in massive amounts of work in the gym and the kitchen to get that ripped look. This is one of the reasons why most of these delusional women think 80% of men are below average.

I think a lot of that stems from the type of women that would be apart of these statistics and that men really just can't be as physically attractive as women. Women are just much more attractive than men in general. For example, in Hollywood there are many women that are transcendent beauties, but only a few men that are equivalently attractive. Just the way nature made us.

It's like I've said on here multiple times having had multiple sisters and observing them as we got older. Also my own experience that society engineers who or what you find sexually arousing. It explains why distant cousins think interracial sex is disgusting but my sisters don't. They grew up different, having been given examples of different men and indoctrinated differently as a consequence. Also my own experience of what an attractive woman is (blonde, blue eyes, perfect health / skin) came from my own social indoctrination.

Bottom line of what I'm saying here is social programming made it so 5-10% of men are attractive to 80% of the women out there. Blame movies, TV, radio, etc. Blame all the shitty romance novels that tell lie after lie about what love and life are really like.

This also explains why so many people are unhappy all the time. When reality meets the fiction it's a jarring and depressing experience.
