I might be single, but I still have the family I grew up with. I plan on spending as many holidays as I can with them while they're still around, and if I am lucky enough to be an uncle some day then I'll be happy to see my nieces and nephews. Or if that doesn't happen, I always have my friends.

Holidays, in my humble opinion, take away the value of the rest of the year. Because in contrast, all days that are not holidays are nothing to celebrate, therefore, life outside of holidays means nothing, exept to live for the next holiday. This is the birth of the birtbday, survivng a year around the sun has become cause of celebration, but for what? does survivng each of the individual days become meaningless? I beleive that all days are to be celebrated, because we may not have a tomorrow.

On the second side of my opinion, holidays give way to shitty behavior. Because i do X for you on X day, i dont have to be nice for the rest of the year. Its sort of an emotional blackmail. Have you ever heard your parents say when you dont show up for a holiday celbration, "but its Christmas" or "thankgiving", "dont you want to spend time with your family"? Trying to emotionally trap you into spending time with them, but under the pretense of being festive. This kind of shitty behavior bothers me. I dont like spending days with my family if its a holiday. if i want to spend time with them, i just do. Sometimes holidays are the only time i can due to my work letting me have extra days off, but for the most part, i dont spend time with people because i have to, i do it because i want to.

so moral of this story is, do what you want.

Seriously its really just another day of the year no different from any other -- and as for it being "for family, and children" bit (especially all of the exorbitant "toys & gifts" and stuff) -- that's all a relatively recent "commercialization invention" that was mainly pushed by retailers...

Traditionally, it was a "holy day" -- that's where the word "holiday" comes from* -- and was intended to be spent not just "with family" but observing some religious & spiritual ritual, and/or to be spent in quiet contemplation/reflection regarding one's beliefs, etc. -- and of course simply "relaxing" and taking a break from work (much in the same way that the "Sabbath" was to be a "day of rest").

* Which among other things is one reason why I always laugh when someone thinks they are somehow "secularizng" the day & season and/or that they are "dissing" religion (distancing themselves from the whole "Christian" aspect of "Christmas" {aka "Christ-mass"}) by saying "Happy Holidays!" -- because they're STILL using a "religious" term (i.e. "Happy Holy-Day(s)!"); they're just doing so unwittingly and ignorantly.

This year I'll be going to my parents house, but its okay cause it'll just be me and them, my sister lives half way across the country and my aunts are going out of town.

I normally wake up early and have a huge wake and bake time, play some video games, go for a hike or bike ride, and then go to my parents house. My family aint so bad I can stand most of em including my sister, as long as we dont talk about politics or shit like that lol.
