So today I was at work and a black woman called me ,"white washed " Now for the record I am a black male. I have lived half my life in all black community and the second half my teenage half to early adulthood in a white community. I never understood this term, I don't know why.

I mean hell even my own black mother has called me this. I mean here I am with two college Diplomas, one of which is in Engineering and living on my own with my own place, while my siblings don't do anything haven't gone to college or university or anything they don't work and yet all of them are black WTF. To me this term is limiting.

Now this female tried to explain it is that my mannerisms are "white" I was like mannerisms are a learnt behaviour and since I was raised by a black mother I don't understand what you mean. She tried to assure me that based on how I speak and to her I am a white person living in a black body.

She Continued to explain to me because I listen to rock and other music that I am even more "white washed" I tried explaining to her that with out Jazz which black people happen to popularise rock would not exist today as we know. I mean it could exist obviously I mean anyone could have invented it, not the point.

I explained to her giving music a gender or race is stupid because music is just music. Giving it a Race or say white music or black music is dumb. Yes I understand a large group of people might listen to a certain kind of music, but that doesn't mean anyone that listen to it is trying to be a part of that group. It's just music.

I mean guys have said it to me more of a joke, however this woman was serious; Even going as far as to bring my white coworker on her side who claimed," I am whiter then he is " This notion is annoying as hell.

I don't know why this term exist however could someone explain it to me. Yes I am aware this doesn't exactly belong on MGTOW. However it seems like mainly woman that have used this shaming term to describe me my entire life.

TL;DR Woman called me white washed we got into a debate. I don't understand the term of being called white washed, I would like some clarification and my understanding of this terminology is that it is limiting and used to shame people within a certain group. Most woman have describe me of as this or not really black, were the heck is this language coming from ? why do woman use it on people within their own group so to speak?" Tl;DR

Thanks for all the comments. I read all of them even though my original question was answered somewhere in their the definition of "white- washed" I guess it's the modern day word for "uncle-Tom" Thanks I enjoyed reading your stories as well. I am just tired of being around woman it's just draining and in all honesty it's just pointless

Update: so now it's spreading like wild fire around the work place what she said about me. Some people agree with her some think it's funny now I would normally care however it's becoming like broken telephone and the original story is being lost. I only stated that I didn't understand her position it got blown up were now apparently I was mad that she called me this now I never showed anyone I was angry until posting here. I tried and stayed out of drama and it found me. The more I work here the more toxic I find myself. I guess I'll just remember rule #38
