And she probably feels the more white you act the more out of her league you are. Just think of it as jealousy transfer. She wishes she had a brother (strong Alpha.."black) in her life with "provider" (i.e. "white-washed") traits on top. But chances are excellent she will wind up like many black females. Ive. Been called that in high school when some some people found out I had Led Zeppelin on my mp3 player. My family didnt like that at all. I once had anmuncle of mine curse me out saying "why dont I listen to music from my culture?" He seems to think im one of those black people who hate other black people. Just because on my musical choices.

Its messed up. At the time there was a ton of rock qnd rap on my mp3 player those were the two predominant genres. As time went on that changed I started sampling and trying a bit of everything. Now I have a very diverse mp3 player. But every now and then I still get that bullshit op mentioned above.

I once had a guy at my work place call me wierd for listening to Pink Floyd (it was Hey You) when I asked him what he listens to buddy was like "All I listen to is Drake" You have literally thousands of music genres ojt there and for some reason people limit themselves to only one. Ah yes. I've dealt with this quite a bit as a black male. First in my family to go to college. My brother was a drug dealer who got killed when I was a HS sophomore. Both my sisters single mothers who got pregnant in high school. All because I wanted to be normal, go to school, graduate, get a job and you know, not go to prison or get shot at, I was considered "weak" by my family. I get it. My brother was a hood alpha male bringing in hundreds of thousands of dollars a year but, he got killed before he was 26. Yet my sisters used to act like I was a loser for not being more like him. In passing they would always say stuff like I would end up with a white girl or an Asian girl. I'd ask why and they'd say I couldn't handle a black girl or a hood chick...whatever that's supposed to mean. As if all black women are "hood". As if I would want to be with a woman like that anyway. They're too stupid to realize they're just reinforcing negative stereotypes about themselves. I've had other chicks say I looked like I dated white chicks too or that I acted white washed. In the black community, if you act like you have sense, and aren't out here looking like a rapper, then you're a Carlton Banks type sellout. You can't just be a normal brother. They ostracize you only to cry foul when you date a white chick. The black community pushes its best and brightest out the door and elevates people whose future lies in cleaning toilets (or prison / death) to alpha male status. It's sad.

I receive comments like this on a daily basis. I too have two degrees(in the middle of my second one) and have been likened to Steve urkel my entire life. White women constantly tell me that I am a white man in a black man's body. My brothers and sisters act just like me but no one ever tells them that because my brother can play sports and is a musician and my sisters can dance(jazz tap modern etc). I have none of those traits and thus many white woman have made comments "revoking" my black card. Nothing you say or do will change women's strange view of race. Its how they select mates in their mind and they project their faulty logic on you since your a nice "safe black man". That's the label I've been given by prettyuch every white and black woman. I can handle as a joke, as I'm sure you have, but many people take it very seriously and my advice is to not entertain their decisions.

From what I noticed about 'American Black Culture' at least from what mass-media provides me, there seems to be a self-imposed subtext on what it means to be 'black' which forces you to "keep it real" which means many legitimate ways of making your way in the world is seen as a betrayal to your Black Culture, it doesn't help that only about 1% of blacks will be able to make something of themselves via the acceptable entertainment route(rapper, sportsman, actor) while entering the STEM fields is seen as selling out for some reason.

I wish I was more of a wordsmith but I get this vibe that the biggest obstacle to success for black people these days is the strict adherence to "Black Culture" and "keeping it real" which really is a form of collectivism.

Education, enlightenment and work ethic is not race specific. What the hell is "white" anyways? What really is "black"? As far as I know, most African Americans aren't practicing tribal shamanism or wearing lip plates in homage to their ancestors in Africa.

This is a generally female way of thinking since males are more likely to strike out on their own. Females will try to be part of a strong group. I suggest stepping back from yourself and studying this whole dynamic. The fundamental issue is that to them blackness is a synonym for failure. Failure has become cultural identity in the black community. Ergo, if you aren't a failure then you aren't black. How could you be? You're not like them.

I feel sorry for you. You have to become a cultural outcast if you want to make something of yourself. Your own mother would prefer that you be common black trash than her successful son. It's fucked up.

As for the practical side of this: don't engage with racists. There's no logic there, only contempt (and in the case of the black community, a deep self hatred). You cannot argue with how people feel.

Also, this woman is not your friend. No friend would ever speak to another like that, nor should you let anyone (friend or not) speak to you like that. Do not associate with this person, nothing good will come of it (especially as it is clear that she would like to drag you down to her level).

A lot of people do things because they think it makes them a part of a demographic. I live in the southeast united states, and a lot of people do things only because it makes them feel more accepted. many young men go hunting, watch sports, etc, just because to NOT do those things would make them stand out. and they call out others who do not do those things. if you act any differently you are 'going black', 'turning into a n!@#$r', or are accused of being a 'fag'. Socially, we are inherently wired to keep people 'in line'. After millions of years living with a king, ruler, etc, we have set up boundaries of hierarchy. if a peasant started to think of himself as a king or ruler, it could mean death or worse. so the other peasants would keep that individual in check by reminding them that they are NOT in the upper class. While we no longer have that mentality governmentally, we still have it socially. We try to keep members of our social class in our social class.

That's my take on it, anyway.

I had a white roommate when I was in the Air Force who devoted his whole life to trying to be black. I worked in the fire station on base which was about half black half white. One day he told me I was the whitest guy in the whole dept which basically meant I was the nerdiest. Because I would study and try to advance through ranks. I was also true to myself and did not feel like I needed to dress like a black guy or listen to more rap music because I needed to fit in. This guy was so insecure that he did everything he could do to be more ghetto it was almost like he was ashamed of being white. I wasn't a nerd I was athletic, had lots of friends, and picked up a lot of girls but in this guy's mind I was a nerd because I was who I was and I was not ashamed of it . I did not go out of my way to be somebody who I wasn't. It is not just black people who pull that shit. I got along great with the black guys in the dept and I think they respected me for being who I was. But this wannabe douche felt he needed to let me know that who I was wan't good enough

I busted ass, got my cheapie state U engineering degree, and made myself upper middle class when I went into management. Made myself financially independent by saving and investing instead of blowing it all on poontang and conspicuous consumption and retired in my forties.
