I know we all walk our own path and are totally alone in life and all that great stuff but I have the need to come back and vent.

I'm away with the military (stateside) today for Father's Day. Its job number 2 in the 3 jobs that I have. I expected a phone call, a text, a FaceTime, a whatever from my kids on behalf of my wife to say Happy Father's Day. I grew more homesick and angry and sad because I missed my kids with each hour I didn't hear from them.

Finally, at 3PM, I reached out to my wife. She wasn't sure what my schedule was so, no call. I then was treated to a FaceTime of the back of my son's head while he played PlayDoh.

I finally told him I loved him and I hung up. I am angry as fuck and I'm sure my surroundings, work schedule and home sickness is all kind of coming to a head. Anyways, I had to write this down. In a shitty way right now.

I don't want a ticker tape parade. Once, it would be nice to get some genuine, thoughtful acknowledgement for what I do. Especially today and being hundreds of miles away.

EDIT: Bummed out that my wife never got the kids on the phone. I worked the night shift last week (back on days now) and I told her I assigned her a ringtone that I would answer no matter what. This has Nothing to do with their acknowledgement (they are too young) or the fact that I'm in the military

Update: Called the wife in between and told her to be ready for some FaceTime in "8 minutes." She did as she was told, I had a fun conversation with the boy and the newborn. I acknowledged that I never told her I was on nights and gave her my new work schedule, very matter of factly. Because she followed my instructions I sent her a gif from one of our favorite porn clips. If I'm a betting man, we're gonna have some phone sex tonight. I'm gonna chalk this up to a sleep deprived, overworked temporary fuck up.
