Yesterday I did something without even thinking about it. It was a weird feeling because the words came out of my mouth and as they did, I was thinking, "Am I really saying this?"

I have no issues giving my wife a hug, or a kiss for that matter, in public. But I do have issues with people telling me when I'm supposed to show my wife affection, and using shaming tactics to get me to comply. The old me would have gotten extremely flustered and complied. What happened surprised the hell out of me, because I just did it without thinking.

I got a call from my wife yesterday asking if I would like to meet her and some other people for subs. I said yes. I got there about 5 minutes after they did and everyone else had ordered. My wife came up and joined me at the counter to order, and the guy at the counter said to her, "Didn't you already order?" She said, "no, I was just waiting for my husband." "Awww, she is so sweet!" said the 50-ish guy behind the counter. I smiled. "Yeah she is," I said. "I think she deserves a hug," said the guy.

So I smirked and said something like, "yeah," and was going to make my order. "In public," he said. "you're probably right," I said. But I wasn't complying. "Just to show her you appreciate her." Wow, not giving up. Without even thinking -- "Actually, " I said, sarcastically, "I don't appreciate her." Before I could get the next sentence out of my mouth, an "OOOOH" from the teenage dude making the subs. I amplified the shit out of it, "In fact, I beat her daily -- look at all these bruises on her face!" "OOOH" My wife thought it was funny (probably because I don't beat her).

I was in disbelief for several minutes after saying that and not complying with the shaming.

Now remember, according to feminist dogma, we live in a misogynistic, patriarchal society, where women have to do whatever men say, where men systematically oppress women, and where the oppression of women is celebrated. So why did other males attempt to shame me? Why weren't they cheering me on when I made those sarcastic comments? Why didn't they say, "yeah bro, beat that stupid bitch if she ever gets out of line!" Why did they act like I was going to be in trouble when I got home?

So much for the fucking patriarchy!
