I'm new to this and still iverthinking stuff... but feel I need to be aware of my habits so I can break them effectively and mold new behaviors.

Heres my question. Wife just came home from work. I was in my home office working. In the past, I'd immediately get up...go greet her, and essentially orbit around her. Asking about her day... give her a hug, etc.

Today I decided to continue working. She greeted kids and milled about in other area of house -- not seeking me out.

After about 20 minutes... she popped her head in my office... not fully entering.

I playfully said, "come on over here and say hi to Papa" motioning her over to me. She resisted and smart alecky said... "ummm ....try again." Seeming to imply that she wasnt going to respond when called over.

I replied with a light chuckle and said, "my bad...I meant to say bring that sweet looking ass over here and say hi to Papa."

She turned around and went back to other room.

I just continued working and let her go without saying anything further.

Help me translate this exchange.

Suggestions on how I should have handled it?
