These two essentials can result in logical conflicts. Let me explain.

Like many men, I have little interest in fashion. My fashion interest and wardrobe encompasses the basics that I need to be a high-functioning, professionally very successful man, but no further. I’m no slob, but I’m also a “three basic pairs of shoes” kinda guy. After reading MRP core material, I’ve reluctantly come around to agreeing that, as a part of my MAP to enhance my SMV, I do need to upgrade my wardrobe. Part of my medium-term plan is to gradually purchase new clothing items as my schedule and wallet permit, but I have not begun yet.

The other night, I got hit with a strong shit test from Mrs. ShiveringPines on this topic. Mrs. SP hates how I dress, thinks I look too informal whenever we go places, where she says I embarrass her. I’d say I handled it about 70% - much better than pre-MRP, not as well as I could have. But a blow-by-blow is not important here.

I am now presented with the following quandary: upgrading my wardrobe is a totally necessary step in my MAP to upgrade my SMV. Yet if I do so now, I risk operating in her frame - if I go out and buy new clothes, then she will feel that I’ve done so to appease her, which affects our power dynamic. I have to balance pursuing my MAP versus maintaining frame. What does MRP advise in this situation?

My take for now: if I put off the purchases I had already intended to make, and (obviously) give her no input into what I buy - just show up one day with new stuff - I feel like that is the best/only balance I can strike.

Update: Some strong words below, but I appreciate the MRP feedback. Gotta continue upping my game. Wardrobe upgrade, it is.
