You're behind the wheel on the highway doing maybe 10 over the speed limit. All the sudden a dude on a crotch rocket cuts your off out of nowhere pushing 100mph. He speeds down the highway swerving around cars and disappears ahead. You think: "He'll get what's coming to him. Either when the cops get him or he crashes and smears himself on the pavement for the next quarter mile."

You're at a carnival and find a wallet on the ground. You open it and find ~$100 in cash and see a guy's photo ID. Oddly enough, you see him standing at a ride 50 feet away completely unaware. You don't take the money out, walk up to him, and give him back his wallet. Then walk away thinking: "I could have benefitted myself right there, but I didn't. Surely the universe will reward me in the future."

The husband in your extended family divorced his wife years ago. You don't entirely know why but you know he went off and started living a new life somewhere else, dating multiple women and all that. But many years have gone by and now you hear that he's old and alone. You feel slightly good about it.

Stop it. These petty feelings that desire the world to be a just place are weak. When letting yourself be moved by them, you are completely stepping out of your frame, and into that of pure helplessness. You desire the karma knight to ride in on his white steed to do what is right and just and should be done. You are letting your feelings be plucked and pulled by sometimes miniscule events that don't even matter in the grand scheme of things. Is this you as the steady oak that stands tall when a gust of wind comes along? Or is this you as the boy who runs behind his mother's apron because something bad happened and she should handle it, or something good happened and you should be rewarded.

Do not be confused. The world can be shitty and rule of law has it's place. There is a difference however between wishing a speeder gets pulled over, and wishing a killer gets caught and jailed. The difference is your reaction when these things happen. When the speeder gets pulled over and you get giddy because of karma, you're getting high off the karma knight's presence. When a killer gets caught and jailed, you simply know a killer is off the streets, it is what it is, and what was done needed to be done. Karma is the definition of a covert contract:

1: The universe did something to me ( / I did something for the universe).

2: The universe now owes me something.

3: The universe in not sentient, only you know of this contract.
