I am going ahead and approve this even though AskMRP was designed to take these kind of questions. The intriguing twist is that you are not just a wife, you are the wife of a Merp.
made sure our sex life was very active. I felt like a super wife and I literally woke up blissful almost everyday.
You have your baseline. You had some setbacks. Now work on returning to it. I am sure you have had physical therapy. Have another one and this time tell them your goals and the baseline weight you want to get back.
my drive is almost completely gone.
Let me guess. Narcotics? I would personally try weed instead. For both the pain and the drive.
Are there any small gestures I can do to show him how thankful I am?
Ummm, I have to ask because I have never understood. Does a blowjob require a "sex drive?" Can't you derive pleasure from giving pleasure? I give my wife a massage and take my time. It is not particularly fun for me. It is, in fact, tiresome. I do it because she get's so much pleasure from it.
I know for a fact that a hand job does not require a sex drive from the woman. Showing some interest and admiration during a groin massage does go a long way, however.
I figure if you want a "small" gesture you could just go big.

Priceless. Exactly what I was thinking but you made it sound so eloquent.

I appreciate you approving this. It's been weighing heavy on my mind.
I refused narcotics past the first 20 they gave me. I know what that path leads to. I am using Kratom and weed for pain now.
It isn't just about the sex drive, I am always exhausted. I miss sex with him. I miss that intimacy, I miss that release. I literally sleep 15ish hours a day now. I've fallen asleep while trying to please him, which made me feel horrible... thankfully he was sweet about it. You are right, I need to please him and make it a priority to do so. Maybe a nap right before he gets home so I'm rested would help :)

Sounds to me like the best gift you can give your husband is to get better, get back to work at least part time (staying at home is killing you it is obvious all the way through the internet) and most important maintain and build a positive attitude. Guess what? That is also one of the most important factors in getting better. Attitude and motivation are all important in recovery from a serious traumatic accident.
I would get into a work hardening program and again recommend exercise/PT to tolerance.
[–]Juicier_Froot2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yes, staying at home has been hard. I enjoy it some days and others I feel like less of a person since I am not contributing financially. I have never not worked, so it is definitely a humbling experience.
I should be cleared for weight training soon here, which is my passion in the gym. As of now I'm doing yoga and lots of stretches to keep myself limber at the very least. It has helped my healing as well.
I used to be a very positive person, always seeing the good in everything. This has made it much much harder to see good things. I never used to cry and I do quite often now. I suppose there is good in that however since my husband appreciates seeing me be emotional for once. Haha.
Thank you for the words of wisdom. This whole thread has made me feel better. I have always been a person who looks in the mirror if there is any disruption in my life. Everyone here has given me the confidence that I am doing most of the things I should be plus given me ideas on how to be better.

I am using Kratom and weed
From the interwebz:
Addiction effects may include: Loss of sexual desire
Addiction effects may include:
Never heard anything good about kratom.

I've used it for pain in the past, since it works off of the same receptors as opioids it does have similar affects, I.e loss of sexual drive (accept for when I take the extract, then I'm a bigger slut than normal). The reason I chose Kratom over pills was because of the addition rate being much much lower. I couldn't not use something for pain. My wrist was mangled and I have pins in it now. I've dealt with pain, a lot... this was different, I had to do something.

I have talked to my doctors about why my drive is so low, they say it's due to my brain injury and I just need time to heal.
Athol Kay says that sex is all about hormones.
I suspect that the docs have put you on drugs, especially if you have back and neck injuries. Those are often oxy* drugs, which are highly addictive, and for a lot of people don't even do that great a job at relieving the pain. I tried some after surgery; I really didn't like how they made me feel, and I preferred to relieve the pain by ice and elevating the affected areas rather than those drugs. I had hand surgery for a severe fracture. I just put my hand on my head for a few days and walked around like that. Extremely effective. You may be able to do part of those strategies.
If you haven't already, you should see a chiropractor. They're way more invested in helping you lose pain and gain mobility. Not being able to move without pain is awful.
Somebody else here recommended pot. I do too. If you're in a good enough state where pot is legal recreationally or medically, give it a try. If not, consider moving or breaking the law.
The closest person I know who had a severe enough back issue that they needed to quit their job has become a daily pot user, and it was the only thing that worked for his pain. He's mobile again, employed again in a different field, with lots of physical therapy and changed workspaces. He uses a standing desk now, and has a stretch routine.
Brain injuries suck. They really do take time, and you really don't know the long term effects. I'm sorry this happened to you.

They gave me 20 pills at first, I never refilled. I know what pain killers can lead to. I am using Kratom and weed for pain.
I LOVE my chiropractor. He uses ultrasound therapy with me and it has helped a ton. I am seeing a total of 6 doctors, all of them helping me heal in the most efficient & natural way. I am doing everything from hypnotherapy to physical therapy.
I've been on hormone therapy for years to regulate me. The accident has definitely altered my chemistry. My doctor has changed my hormone prescription twice now as to adjust to my levels, I am having him test me every month now.
I greatly appreciate the input :)

Body fat comes from diet. Muscle comes from exercise.
Watch what you eat. Eat clean and eat appropriate portions for your activity level. MyFitnessPal has been a real helpful app to many.

I agree 100%. My doctors wanted me on the Paleo diet. I struggled for months to get there since I wasn't really capable of cooking like I used to. I just recently went onto it strictly and I have seen changes. Definitely not as fast as I'd like them to be though. Lol
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
props to you. its hard to maintain. you will fall off the horse at some point, don't let it dishearten you.
just remember, physical change takes long term lifestyle change. Be stubborn. Stay dedicated to being a you that you can feel good about.
also note: even a mere handjob administered lovingly, patiently, and sensually with a spirit of service and enthusiasm can go a looooong loooong way.
[–]Juicier_Froot1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I try not to be too hard on myself when I "treat" myself to something outside of Paleo. I try to keep it to 2-3 times a week max though.
Seeing the small changes in a short time gave me a lot of motivation. I even pointed it out to him and he couldn't hide the smile, definitely another big motivator.
The thing is I broke my right wrist, I am right handed... It has made handjobs, blowjobs and practically any type of job very hard (no pun intended). Not because "woah is me", but because doing any of those things a) with a cast on and b) with my left hand just doesn't work very well. Anal has definitely been happening a lot more.

I admire your bravery in bringing this to MPR. I imagine this concern is already noted by your husband. If you really want the best advice, I would go to him about it. He is the only one who will know what "doing enough" means to him.
[–]Juicier_Froot1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Very true and I totally agree. I have asked but I feel he may be holding back because he is very concerned about me. He has been so wonderful through this whole thing, literally I don't know what I would do without him.
[–]BobbyPeruMRP Approved2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link
You can lose the weight from diet alone. It's harder, but I've done it myself. You just have to eat very clean - fruits, veggies, stay away from sugars and processed foods... Protein shakes with low sugar.

Paying positive attention to those we love isn't something we do just when we feel "in the mood".
Find new ways to show you care.
Well put.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Guys are designed to sacrafice for their women. We are designed to suck up bad times.
Show youre making sincere effort to return to normal. Not just effort, drive. The only thing he will Need is the hope for the good times to return, and that you care enough to get there.
I guarantee, you doing physio and coming home exhausted and passing put on the couch? All the reward he needs.
Think of it like an 80s montage.
And if you can find a way for him to contribute to your effort? It gives a man some measure of control, which helps us keep our eye on the prize with good spirits.
Bjs if you want, but its not going to make or break this.
This made me tear up :) Thank you.
80's montage! Yes!! Haha
[–]Juicier_Froot1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I think one of the biggest lessons I've had to learn was letting go. I have had to give up my control and trust him so much more. It has actually made him do even better as a husband if that makes sense.

We rise to the challenge.
[–]Juicier_Froot1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Absolutely.
I have always been a woman who can take care of herself. We've prided ourselves on being a couple who wanted instead of needed one another. I never knew relying on him like this could feel so good... the world has been lifted off my shoulders. Yes I am still healing and I am not near 100%, but I am definitely happier & less stressed then before when I was working full time while going to school full time. Our marriage has seen a few good things come from this at least. I can even see him happier seeing that I need him. More importantly he has risen to the occasion in the most stunning way, which I can see he enjoys and is proud of himself for doing.

Funnily enough, reverse the genders, and shes looking for an exit strategy
Very very true. I can't see myself leaving my husband if these specific roles were reversed but as a woman if my man was just not being a man, we'd have issues for sure.

6 months out from a severe brain injury. /u/scurvemuch
They said it could be up to 5 years before I don't have any more noticeable affects. I am improving quickly especially since I've been able to focus on healing and I am literally doing anything and everything to ensure a full recovery.
[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Probably better to try RedPillWives.
I've asked for advice there before but I had almost no responses. Only two and they basically told me I needed to suck it up and do better.
You aren't doing enough.
Trying and being completely objective with review of performance is difficult yet necessary.
You got in a wreck. Why has that changed the little, flirty, slutty things you would do?
[–]Juicier_Froot1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
That's a good question... the best answer would be because my mind is different. I struggle with remembering my address, I've woken up and been scared because I don't remember my name for a moment. My mind feels like it's working 10 times harder even though I'm using it a lot less. I suppose it's hard to explain. Some days I have a few moments of normality but for the most part I feel lost and foggy.
I suppose my brain has priorities and sex just hasn't made the list yet. Which is a complete 180 from before... there is literally nothing I haven't done for him sexually when he's asked. I am his sub, I live to please him which makes all this so much harder.

Many people have found success with memory and brain fog using Organic Virgin Coconut Oil as a supplement. It would be worth taking a couple tablespoons a couple times a day for a few weeks and see if there is any difference.
I have had success myself for overall mental clarity using a supplement called huperzine-A once per day.
I realize that these may not work because your problems are injury-related, but they are worth a shot.
I will definitely give it a try. Advise is always welcome!
