Lockdown kind of fucked me up. It taught to “accept” drinking alone at home until you blackout is “OK”. I’ve never drank during the day, only at night, which I thought meant I wasn’t an alcoholic. Alcoholics have to drink all day right?? That’s what I thought.

Well now I’m drinking a 5th of vodka a night. I know this is extremely unhealthy, I know it could be deadly. I tell myself all day that I’m not going to drink tonight, and I completely believe myself. But then when 8pm rolls around…I get the urge. And I can’t stop myself from going out and buying it. I purposefully do not keep booze in my house now, but every fucking night I go out and buy it.

If the 10am version of me who is hungover as fuck and swears he won’t drink today, could meet the 8pm version of mw who is fucking chugging vodka…10am guy would assume something really bad must have happened to drive himself to such an extreme. But no. It was just a normal fucking day. But for so,e reason at 8/9/10pm a switch in me flips. There is no internal conflict on deciding if I should drink. There is no debate. I suddenly just have to go get vodka. It’s been decided, there is no wavering or weighing the pros and cons. It’s already decided. Go get vodka now.

I fucking hate this. I’m in therapy. I’m on pills. They’re not working. There’s a lot more to this. I think I use alcohol as an anti anxiety medication. Alcohol is the only thing that calms me down. So giving it up is really fucking hard. Yes I’m probably chemically addicted but I am also addicted to the feeling of not having anxiety and alcohol is the only thing that can do it.

This sucks.
