mods of big-ish subreddits have access to a super secret subreddit called /r/modtalk. this subreddit is modded by mostly admins and they are frequent visitors to the subreddit.

we also have the #modtalk irc channel where admins are talking regularly..

I bring this up because just about every mod in mod talk that i've seen, has been calling for srs to be handled. I can't tell you more beyond that, (and i'm probably pushing the limits of what i can tell you), but think about that:

If the mods of the biggish subreddits can't join arms and collectively get srs banned, i doubt a feedback ticket is gonna do much else.

I really would like to know why the admins ban other subreddits that do what SRS does (eg, gameoftrolls), but SRS is immune.

On the topic of doxxing mods - I'm sure you're getting all kinds of mail about that, and I'm sure you understand the seriousness of the issue. Blackmail was used, a criminal act. I trust that as proprietors of a business, you'll not want the source of your ad revenue, your user base, to feel threatened by such tactics. I trust that if you find out redditors were involved in the commission of said blackmail, you'll take appropriate measures to protect the business - this site - and your consumers - the site members - from further incident... so I'm not going to rant about that.

My concern is this: It is pretty well known that there is a sub dedicated to stalking and harassing other redditors, slandering the site and its members, suppressing speech (the very building blocks of reddit,) and stirring up hostility between subreddits and members. Whether /r/shitredditsays was involved in this incident or not, their habits and their tactics are misleading, abusive, creepy, oppressive, and generally reprehensible. The sub is an embarrassment to an otherwise fascinating and varied menagerie of thoughts and ideas.

While I recognize that free speech protection extends to all opinion, there is a limit to the level of other behaviors one should have to tolerate under that umbrella. While I am not suggesting a ban or censure of the sub, I do call into question whether SRS should rightfully continue to consider themselves champions of the discriminated, protectors of the harassed, and well... the thought police of Reddit, when their own behavior is exactly the same as that which they claim to oppose. It would follow that no one else should consider them any of those things, either, and perhaps there should at least be some communication regarding their actions against the site and its users.

/r/shitredditsays is an embarrassment to Reddit, in the attacks on individual members and other subs, the slandering of the site, and even the petty fact that they weren't even creative enough to come up with their own name. That they are so coddled as to be permitted to organize and execute efforts to repeatedly violate 40% of reddit's short list of rules (the second and third on the list,) should be an embarrassment to the site administrators. It says to the site member, to the visitor, and to the general public who hear about it in blogs and other social sites, that rules here are selectively enforced depending on one's politics.

As a regular user who also writes about the site on an internationally read blog, I'm a bit disgusted to read rumors that indicate the idea may hold a grain of truth. I hope those are just rumors, as I would like to think that a group as immature, confrontational, suppressive, and off-putting as /r/shitredditsays would not find such sympathy with anyone interested in maintaining a steady growth in site use. Certainly not such that its members would not be held to the same terms of service as the rest of us. If that were the case, it would end up being damaging to the site as a whole, as it would discourage individuals from participating in discussion here... and what would reddit be without that?

Blackmail and release of personal info to a public forum is illegal. Subpoenas can be served against the reddit Admins.

I think it would behoove them to deal with this issue before that becomes necessary.

As much as I hate feminists, I have to agree with Ochta. We shouldn't start a crusade to ban their subreddit because a select group of it's members are doing illegal things, and also we don't like them. Are we going to call for an end to r/trees?
