If you don’t like anti-male bias in our legal system, be sure to write to or call your elected officials and let them know you want the laws changed to be more fair to men. We’re starting to see some improvement re: men’s rights, but we have a lot more work to do.

Alimony needs to end... it was important during a time where women were home makers and rarely worked, but no there's no reason for a woman not to work and alimony is literally removing any motivation to work.

If nothing else, it needs to be capped at 6-12 months, to allow a SAH partner time to find work, but this idea that the working spouse should be forced to pay their ex to sit at home all day and not go to work isn't appropriate anymore.

It's very unfair, I paid alimony when she had to pay the income tax and that was still unfair. I do think your example is extreme though, are those the real numbers?

At that point, I would rather just kill the receiver for alimony and spend the rest of your life in prison if that person cheated ofc.

Sadly, that was one of Trump’s changes to pay for other tax cuts. Alimony is now taxed at the payer’s rate which is usually higher than the payee’s. I don’t know if formulas have been adjusted for this. If not it could easily be a 10-15% windfall for the payee.

Yup .... alimony and child support should be 100% tax deductible. It's absolute bullshit that you're paying tax on that money and giving it to the other person tax-free. What a load of shit.

Also, these concepts of alimony and child support need to be completely abolished.

Yep. I paid $500 per week to my ex for years. Paid tax on that income but she didn't. Even though our salaries were discrepant, by the time that payment was deducted from my salary with tax, and added to hers without tax, the greater than $50k income difference between us was gone.

The more my income increased, the more my "child support" payments increased. It's child support + alimony just not in name. It doesn't cost $500 per week to take care of a 17-year-old.

90 percent of divorce doesn't include any alimony anymore since most everyone has jobs now. It's a very rare thing.
