Aussie here. Australia exaggerates the number of female victims and all accusations against a man are counted in the statistics, regardless of facts, evidence and if the case was even investigated. Unsurprising to all you, the number of male victims is severely downplayed. Can confirm from trying that cops won't even let men most file a report, you'll get denied the second they realise you're attempting to see a female perpetrator brought to justice

This survey was done by the Australian Institute of Family Studies who were originally set up to deflect criticism of the Family Court. And it's organised by ANROWS who are the gold standard of bigotry.

I've only had a quick look but:

The results differ wildly from any others I’ve seen – about 3 times the rates claimed from the (somewhat less dodgy) Bureau of Stats survey (PSS).
The 20 year old cohort (the ones with the staggeringly high accusation rates) was recruited using a completely different strategy to other cohorts. Most responded to ads on Facebook targeting women and their health. I'm guessing they went fishing for feminists to survey.
The results for different cohorts seem contradictory. For example, 20 year olds are more than twice as likely as 70 year olds to claim sexual violence at any time over the course of their life.
AIFS also run a similar study for men. They don’t ask men about any of this stuff.

But I don't think sample size is a big issue.

If they don't survey men, it's both excluding male victims, and hard to put the figures in context.

Now I'm not saying men can't be victims. But if a survey includes "has your SO, past or present, ever physically pushed you" then maybe you'd expect a little less hysteria if it was a large number of men and women.

It's ALL in the definitions of what they say is sexual assault.

For example, in the 1980s Mary Koss redefined the word "rape" in her survey on campus rape so that it included any sexual contact, however slight, between consensual partners in a long-term monogamous and committed relationship, if any amount of alcohol had been consumed.

So...a loving, romantic dinner on a Saturday night that ended in passionate love making....was considered rape.

Any wonder that after that, the reports of rape massively increased?

Likewise, sexual assault has be defined to include, "actual, non-completed, threatened, or perceived non-wanted sexual contact" which includes staring at someone (and thus also perceived staring). It is NO wonder that by this loose and all-encompassing definition, 1 in 3 women will be "sexually assaulted" in their lifetime.

"Have you ever felt like a man was staring at you?" Yes? You've been sexually assaulted.

Like, holy fuck. This is so degrading and minimizing to the survivors of REAL sexual assault. What a way to diminish actual traumatic events for people!

"I had a 240lb woman hold me down and smear her foul rotten-fish-smelling vulva on my face, making me almost vomit"

"Yeah, I was sexually assaulted too. I felt like a man once looked at me. So traumatizing."
