I've been wondering why men didn't notice that decades ago. I suspect that much of it is a pathetic attempt to pander to women who have long complained about their portrayal in the popular media. The odd putdown can be construed as a joke but the non-stop barrage we have been seeing is neither funny nor acceptable.

This is the narrative in every movie, series, TV show, and advertisement. I stopped watching. One of the only things that I watch is college and NFL football. But I have noticed that during those broadcasts many of the commercials are targeted to empowering women to dominate every space involved in the sport. Last season I noticed multiple commercials promoting that women belong in the men’s locker room.

As a man I am not ok with it. I really wish there was something to watch that doesn’t tell me what a looser I am and that men do not deserve any space that women should not be allowed to dominate. I don’t know what to do about this. All men could boycott like I do but they are catering to women because they are probably the ones making all the decisions on what the couple or family will watch. I often ask my friends that are married or in a long term relationship what they watch and every time they answer it is some series that I know their wife or girlfriend chose.

I have been noticing this a lot as well. Any Hollywood movie I see in the last 5 years there is this always one guy who is dumb and the girl is always depicted as a smart one.

Im going to make a cold medicine commercial where instead of the guy being an effeminate shlub, he is a talll Latin heartthrob. He gets a cold and tells his wife “bitch get me some cough syrup!” Then fucks the maid while the wife gets in the car.

I think it is related to this need to offer actresses more visibility and stronger central role in movies (strong female characters), a least more than in older movies where women were often reduced to play secondary roles. However, although it makes sense to give women a better and more central acting role in movies (leadership roles,etc.), it implies that (for some with binary thinking) if one side is given stronger central roles, then the other side should loose as much. This is why yes, one can notice that in several recent movies and series, men often occupy "weaker roles" not necessarily stupid in itself or secondary but in the sense that these men will appear, whatever position they occupy in the movies as being undecided for instance or more often shown unwilling or unable to take leadership roles, or showed to take bad decisions because of "toxic behaviors". Sometimes they are showed to be afraid of anything and happy to surrender to some strong female leaders...

This has been a long-running common trope in Movies, TV Shows, Commercials, and other media. It never should have been considered okay. I'm glad more men are waking up about it though.

Also related, is how it's okay to portray a man getting hurt as "funny" in media, but never a woman. "Man Getting Hit By Football" being the classic example.

Simpsons, family guy, modern family, malcolm in the middle off the top of my head. The man is always the fool, the idiot. The woman is the straight one in the family. If it was the other way around it would be banned from tv because its sexist.

Even though for a long time in the past decades it's always been "Hard-working husband and housewife that brings nothing to the table." but now that the roles are reversed it's a problem too, NOTICE A PATTERN?
