The whole "privilege" thing is an excuse for white women to achieve some advantage by being victims. It is largely nonsense.

I really dislike the "check your privilege" phrase. It sounds sort of like this logical fallacy.

Since "If you get raped it was your own fault" is already a crappy argument, you should be able to counter it without resorting to "you can't understand me because you have a penis". If that doesn't work, move on. The person you are arguing with is a fucktard. Yes you can whine all you want about his privilege and your lack thereof, or you can move on.

I am an atheist white man. I was pretty much born that way (save the atheist, I could debate on this, but that is besides the point) If someone disagrees with me and I cannot possibly convince them (which happens to everybody), then I can't blame it all on them not checking their privilege. No. It is I who has the privilege, so when two people disagree, I am the one that should say "Fuck what I just said, I think my genetics are more relevant to this debate, don't you?" to which the other person can reply "Yes you penis owning white skinned person, judging from your appearance, your arguments are invalid. Never mind your arguments their merits."

If you don't like the arguments someone else brings forward, counter those arguments, not the person. After all, isn't this what feminism was supposed to teach us? Weren't we supposed to listen to what was being said instead of look at the genitals of the person saying it? How about the author not make blanket statements about large groups of people. Just because I am white doesn't mean I am disrespectfull towards transgendered people and just because I am an atheist doesn't mean I dislike black people. Even if I did hate black people and gay people, that wouldn't be because I am a white atheistic man.

Sidenote; you may wonder why I say black people instead of "people of colour" or "african american" (I fucking hate that phrase) It isn't because I hold some sort of resentment towards black people, it is because I have met plenty of black people but I have yet to meet an african american, and I have met plenty of black people who aren't africans or americans. White is a colour to and to pretend it isn't is silly. See that? that is what I call a motivation. Something that writer doesn't have to consider since the writer has already read "I am an atheist white man."

I don't have the privilege to accuse all those who disagree with me of having too much privileges.

Wow, this article takes a long time to deliver a meandering point. Let's see if I'm interpreting it right:

"A lot of the white male atheists I meet have, in my view, sexist and/or racist explanations for why atheists tend to be mostly white males. They cannot understand the perspective of people of color and/or women, and should try to keep that in mind. I am disappointed by the racism and misogyny I see from many atheists."

Not gonna comment on the validity of that, just breaking it down a bit.

Female: I think there would probably be more female atheists (and also more non-white and LGBT atheists) if fewer of the majority of atheists, who happen to be straight white males are are thus in a position of great privilege, engaged in discussions of these other groups based on insulting stereotypes and assumptions informed by their privileged position in society.
