Are gender studies necessary?

I think the problem with gender studies is not so much that it isn't useful - as useless degrees are often not as useless as you may think. The problem with gender studies is it is flat out wrong.

The whole thing is a large pile of confirmation bias and wishful thinking almost entirely devoid of academic rigour (see Sokal and Sokal Squared). The problem is it tries to bend reality to fit an ideological model, rather than use reality to build said model.

The issue is when the whole nonsensical 'woke' gender discussion finally implodes people will be left with a degree that covers a subject that is entirely fictional. It will be literally less useful than Harry Potter studies.

Is gender studies necessary? Clearly not - the world got along before these courses were invented.

Are they a waste of money? Depends who you ask. The feminists would see the value - they churn out the feminists' intellectual shock troops. Their influence goes very much further than just those who major in gender studies. They give subjects to sociologists, historians, psychologists etc. And they give lectures to students of law, education, medicine etc. They are key to the ideological hegemony of universities.

Personally I don't see them as either necessary or a waste of money - more like a problem

Understanding the nature of reality, including the human condition, no matter from which angle is always a worthwhile pursuit but only if one rigorously applies the methods and tools of science.

The problem isn't that this isn't a field worth studying, it's that it is a garbage theory built on a garbage method. It's religion masquerading as science.

The answer to that depends on your agenda. If you want to live in a free society then they’re unnecessary. If you like the tyranny of thought that third wave feminists have made to be part of their paradigm then yes, gender studies are absolutely vital.

Necessary? Absolutely not.

Useful? Maybe, but only if it's done without bias which is virtually impossible.

Is gender studies necessary? Sure! All degrees are necessary if there is significant academic work and interest available.

I'm not a fan of "banning" a field of study just because some people don't like it. However, undoubtedly, the field of gender studies has been corrupted and hijacked to remove any empathy or consideration towards men's issues, as much of gender studies either don't believe men face any meaningful issues or dismiss it as "men do it to each other as part of the patriarchy".

The question isn't whether or not gender studies as a concept is necessary, because it is a legitimate field of academia. The question is whether or not the current state of the field has been warped

What do you mean by necessary? Are video games necessary? There is use in them in terms of recreation, but Im sure they have very little direct use when it comes to finding fulfillment. Same goes for gender study courses: they surely have use in certain contexts, however they are for example problematic in the context of academia/science, since some things they teach there and how they teach it might be pretty unscientific. In a nutshell

Gender studies are not necessary. While there are varying experiences with each of the sexes that are quite common to the entire gender, it really isn’t necessary.
