Can chivalry and gender equality coexist? Is it possible to have a society where both genders expect the same pay, respect, treatment (et cetera) while still maintaining an expectation that men provide for and avoid physical conflict with women?

Because one of the first things that feminism instills in its adherents is cognitive dissonance. This it what allows women to bitch about being oppressed in the US despite just buttloads of evidence to the contrary. It is also what allows them to say "I'm a strong, independent woman!" then demand that the guy pay for everything on the first date.

And yes, that is what allows women to say "You should never hit a girl!" while stabbing a guy in the stomach with a spoon. (Slight hyperbole.)

Demands for equality should be taken at face value. If you assert you have the same rights, you must willingly accept the same responsibilities and obligations. This, in a nutshell, is one of my main issues with feminism. Women claim rights, but abjure responsibilities.

I think it can but it would have to become more of a relationship behaviour rather than a all encompassing expectation. If you are a person who actually enjoys acting and behaving with a sense of chivalry, and you are with someone who deserves your honor, respect, trust and protection, then there is nothing wrong with it. A chivalrous behavior to someone who does not understand that it is not about sacrifice for the woman for nothing but rather an act that requires a woman to fulfill certain roles such as emotional support, intellectual equal, helpmate in word and deed, partner in all aspects and ally in all fights. Without that equality in the relationship, not of action but of heart and support, chivalry is pointless and naught but slavery.

If women want all of the same rights as men, then their extra privileges should go also.

Sure it's a simple example of the way conservatives always have double standards instead of "blindly" (ie equally) applied principles. It's one rule for women and another for men as far as feminists go, and it always will be. They will always demand more for women and less for men while pretending to be about equality because that's what conservatives do with their relations between the tribal in group and out group.

In other words they're just bigots and that's what bigots do.
