A guy I'm seeing has phimosis. I don't know how severe 'severe' is, but no way it's going more than half-way down the glans without force and pain. We both live in the UK and so of course, we use the NHS.

He's seen a couple doctors (or maybe one was a surgeon,) and enquired about steroid cream. They said cream wouldn't help. They say that the only option would be circumcision (or dorsal slit.) Obviously, there's physiological reasons why that isn't the preferable choice.

Is everything I read on the internet about steroid cream and preputioplasty bullshit? Is this some circumfetish conspiracy? Is it just such a niche/difficult/experimental procedure that most doctors and surgeons hardly know of it?

(Sorry if this is the wrong sub-reddit, I'd greatly appreciate this being x-posted somewhere better if possible. I just thought someone here might have some experience. And sorry if some of this is a bit vague.)
