Personally, I feel that if I ask a girl out, I should pay for dinner. And I don't mind this. Because basically when I ask a girl out I am saying "Hey, I would like to get to know you better and I would like you to know me better so let me buy you dinner and while we eat we have a chance to talk."
What upsets me is when a girl asks me out and expects me to pay. When that happens, she is basically saying "I want free food. I'll let you be seen with me in public in return for food."

My problem with that is that there are many women who take advantage of that for a free dinner; I've known many men who've had that happen to them, and many women I know point this out. If you want to get to know them, ask them out on a coffee date and go dutch.

This is why need to spread the word on how to properly go on dates. Go do something free, like parks or free admission day at museums.

This also works like a "bitch filter", if she can't handle going dutch on a coffee date, then she isn't worth dating anyways.

That's like inviting someone to your house for dinner, and expecting them to cook for you.
I would just stand up and leave without a word if that situation happened to me.

My ex-girlfriend paid for everything all the time. Refused to let me pay, lol.
I did talk her into splitting it 50/50 sometimes. But, most of the time she refused to take gifts/money from me. We always bought each other gifts on holiday's, birthday's, stuff like that.
Edit: Forgot to add, I don't mind paying for someone's meal or movie or whatever, but if they asked me out on a date, I'd at least expect to split it 50/50. In fact, I'd prefer them to split it 50/50. No way I'd be paying for the entirety of a date that someone asked ME out on, though. Lol. That's just rude on their part.

I think that's a good rule of thumb. If you ask someone out on a date, you should pay.
[–]typhonblue-1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Alternatively, if you ask someone out on a date, you've already put in effort so they should pay.
[–]wildhert2 points 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
^ Agreed, but once a relationship starts, I won't pay for everything, at that point you both enjoy each other's company, you both want to be there, she can at least pay for some of it

If I go out to dinner with a women and she doesn't pay her way, she's told me all I need to know about her.

But, it made me confirm all the things which I’ve been reading or listening about traditionalist as well as modern feminist women from the anti-feminist regions of the internet

holy hell, it's our worst nightmare. the comment section on that first video is revolting. it's a bunch of female hating animals spewing all kinds of misogynistic drivel in pseudo-philosophical manners. it's disturbing.

I've been on several dates now, and from my experience, a girl who expects a man to give her free food because of her gender is not a girlfriend material. But that's just me.
[–]Always_Doubtful1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Men pay for dinner still cause as the blog says its beated into boys' heads that they gotta bend over and be a girl's bitch. Its extremely old fashioned and needs to die cause women should pay 50/50 cause free food isn't an option.
[–]KTY_1 point 13 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link
Most first dates I've been on, the women insisted we pay our own meals.
Just kidding. They also expect flowers most of the time.

It will ultimately depend upon what arrangement will work for the individuals involved, however there is definitely more pressure upon men to pay for a meal. For the sake of fairness, it should really be 50/50, although this doesn't really account for the facts surrounding who is being treated and who is doing the treating.
Generally, it's men who ask women out to dinner rather than the other way around, so it will make sense that they are the ones who pay. In a scenario where a woman were to ask a man out to dinner, it would be unreasonable, in my opinion, for her to expect him to pay when it was supposed to be his treat from her.
I suppose the summary of my argument is that it's not really an issue of who pays, but under what circumstances. If person A agrees to treat person B to a dinner, person A should pay for the meal. Another issue is why it's always the man that's expected to invite women on dates and not the other way around. With men taking the initiative and having the confidence and nerve to ask a woman out, women have the advantage of feeling more wanted.
Personally, I feel somewhat relieved that I avoid all of this entirely. I'm considerably better off for being single, and can focus on more important things.

I've been reading the coments and thinking, why does eveyone think the guy should pay for everything when asking a girl out and split it 50/50 when a girl asks a guy out?
I actually scrolled to the top to check that this was mensrights. You are now 6th from the last post, including this one.
Sad.
