I had no idea that raping your spouse was still legal in so many countries. Sure, it's no shock that Iraq and Saudi Arabia and Afghanistan and Nigeria have some backwards views... but India, Vietnam, and China? Singapore's so strict that they sentenced that one American kid to public caning for vandalism, but they're cool with marital rape?

Maneka Gandhi, Minister for Women and Child Development in India, said in a written statement on Thursday that marital rape could not be criminalised in India because of factors including “level of education and illiteracy, poverty, social customs and religious beliefs”.

So basically he's saying "citizens of India are too fucking stupid to stop raping". What a wonderful representative to have in your government.

Pretty fucked up situation, for sure. But um... that Indian politician (who is a woman btw) has nothing to do with the MRM and does not represent MRAs.

What this is, is the traditionalists seeing a way to tap into the younger generation through Mens Rights Activism, you see it here where social conservatives are coming along ranting about marriage and claiming that's the reason why society is breaking down.

I've warned about this before but yes, you're right, like with Roosh we need to kick these people out who think this whole thing is just another movement for them to hijack and ruin or simply cut ties with them.

I do find it annoying that people act as if MRM is like feminist organisations where everyone here automatically knows everybody else and we're some giant hive mind, we're not feminists and not all of us are full time MRAs and we don't side with people purely because of their genitalia.

Supposedly, of you outlaw male circumcision, you're anti-Semitic. Outlawing marital rape seems to be against some religious belief in India. I don't really see how a country that says that 8 day old boys (arguably more vulnerable than an adult woman if you're a feminist, but most people can recognize that adult women have more agency) have no choice with what can be done with their genitals as having any moral authority to criticize another county for deciding that women have no right to decide what is done with their genitals.

Now that I got the double standard rant out of the way. Of course, they're both wrong. Here's the thing. How much does someone have to agree with you to be an MRA? What are the specific concerns that these MRAs have? Maybe they've come to the conclusion that there is already no defense against a rape charge in India. This may very well be a misplaced concern that this new statute will be used to abuse husbands.

That doesn't mean opposing the statute, but opposing it in it's current form. Maybe the opposition is that it doesn't extend the same protections for male victims.

Personally, I'm okay with marital rape in some aspects. Like if my wife gave me a blow job without my consent while I'm sleeping or intoxicated with weed.
