First off: consider career implications. I laud you for wanting to choose a brave topic, but depending on field and how large the newspaper is this can have real implications for your future.

Second: if you are ready to take this brave step then prison sentencing is a good place to start. In general there is a lot on how courts treat men that can be brought to peoples attention. This is concrete, it has some data and because of this its a good starting point.

Why not start by looking at education? How boys are given lower grades for the same work and fall behind by grade school. How males are the minority of university students, yet have less scholarships available. Etc.

Get into Men's issues without making it seem like you want to completly ignore women's problems or blame women for certain problems that men have. If you write your article with the attitude "Women have problems but men do aswell!" you'll be able to convince a lot more people even if you shouldn't have to do this in order to raise awareness of a topic like men's issues.

I think could be a great topic. It's one where there is a significant disparity between what the research has shown for decades (gender symmetry in victimhood and perpetration) and what the general public assumes to be the norm (patriarchal terrorism).

It's also a convenient time to discuss this, many people will remember the recent Johnny Depp trial. It also allows you some flexibility as far as how you want to deal with feminism. If you don't want to explicitly criticize feminism, you don't have to, you can just focus on the fact that research proves gender symmetry without pointing out why the public's perception has been so intentionally skewed. If you are fine with criticizing feminism, there are also plenty of options, starting with the Duluth Model.

As previously mentioned by someone else, the sentencing disparity in the criminal justice system is also a good choice, and if you're really feeling like being accused of antisemitism, you could take a crack at combatting non-consensual circumcision.

Whatever you chose, there are plenty of super knowledgeable people here who are familiar with the relevant research and information, should you ever want any help gathering info.

There was a guy earlier today who posted here saying he was a feminist and in his worst moments, the very people he was supporting turned on him and kicked him out of their friend group.

You can also talk about this trend of pointing out toxic masculinity, while still not really giving any emotional support and still telling men to essentially "man up."

There's also this culture of constantly providing warnings against men to the point where people kind of assume men aren't safe to be around until proven otherwise. There was even someone who made another post here who said he was female and changed to transgender male (I think? I forget exactly, so forgive me if I'm remembering wrong) and said he noticed how he felt so socially isolated compared to when he was a woman.

Others already pointed out legal disadvantages to being a male. There's just this idea that if it's male vs female, the male is so likely to be in the wrong that it is nearly impossible for the female to be in the wrong. It's even taken advantage of in many cases where the woman will claim that the man did something wrong with absolutely no evidence simply because they're angry at the man. Even if the woman doesn't win the case, most people won't look at the man the same and he will have to endure the mental toll that takes on him. It's also very possible for the man to lose a job or a potential promotion just for the accusation.

You can talk about how in some cases, women can pass "test" of all types with less qualifications than men. This could be for something like a promotion for example. I'll be honest, this one is a bit iffy because I think it's an advantage given for similar reasons to why minority races are given an easier time to get into some jobs or colleges. It's meant to help them kind of catch up to the people who were privileged and given an advantage until now.

Just don't make it seem like women have no troubles at all in comparison to males and don't make it seem like all women are scummy extremists who hate all men.

Edit: I might come back and add more stuff occasionally as I think of things.

There's this argument that men are always objectifying women and this is a terrible thing. Admittedly it's not a good thing to objectify people, but we ignore when women objectify men. So I guess this is just an example of a double standard that has come into existence.

This is just based on a youtube video where someone explained the science and complexity of psychopathy and sociopathy so I don't know exactly how accurate this one is. Men are more likely to be afflicted with psychopathy and sociopathy because it's determined by the X chromosome. Women have it less because even if one X chromosome has the issue, the other X chromosome can make it so that it isn't an issue. Again, don't know how accurate that is, but if it's true, then it means that perhaps this is a mental issue that needs to be addressed more somehow for men and of course for the women that have it. Problem is that it is difficult to determine if someone is a psychopath or sociopath until they're pretty much 25 years old since it's hard to identify in an underdeveloped brain. After saying this, I feel like I should mention that it's a good idea to verify the validity of these claims of issues men face before using them as reference in your newspaper.

Since you're in a liberal arts university (which I presume is rather progressive and left leaning), I'd recommend that you take Richard Reeves' book of boys and men as the foundation for your articles.

Reeves is a scholar at the left leaning 'Brookings institution' think tank and his book has been positively reviewed by many left leaning media outlets.

This way you can address the issues without risking your social standing / career. When you're pressed on the subject, you can say that you want to 'prevent people from drifting towards the right which exploits the issue to radicalize young men'.

I think that could be a workable way to do it.
