In society currently men are objectified more than women. How many people have cheered a vicious tackle? Are they really viewing the person on the receiving end as a person at the time? Certainly, when the person can't get up, the realization sinks in, but not at the time. As consumers, when don't always view workers as people with the possible exception of the front facing positions. One may not view the cook, who prepared the meal or the busser, who has to clean up, as people, but see the waitstaff, who served it, as a person. That doesn't seem to be the case the other way around.

Companies do extensive research to figure out what you want. There is customization even mass customization. There's target advertising, etc. Companies also view their employees as people. Some offer flex time. There is often sick leave. Maternity leave is also a big one. The big distinction is many companies don't view employees as the same. Some are more human than others.

Most people who work are men. Men work longer hours. Of the women who work, there is a greater proportion of them in front facing positions. It stands to reason that men are far more objectified than women. It happens within companies also and not just internalized bias like men being punished for asking for flex time. There are policies that show men are not seen as fully human. Many companies offered insurance that gives women OB/GYN services even before the ACA mandated it. I've never seen one that allows a man to designate a urologist that he can see without a referral. I've never seen a company offer to reimburse a man who needed a referral. Even if you want to make the argument that it's so rare that it doesn't make sense to designate a urologist, that doesn't explain why a company doesn't equalize the benefit when it does occur. They can pay the employee for seeing his primary care physician without counting it as paid time off. They can reimburse the referral costs and co-pays. Maternity leave (with the exception of bonding time) should be handled through a company's disability / sick leave. Many companies offer a specific benefit to women, which recognizes their humanity, they don't offer something comparable to men because they view men as simply a cog in the machine.
