So recently a post was made on r/relationship_advice. An 18F made the post about a situation that just happened to her where her boyfriend who is also 18, asked if he could record her giving consent before they would have sex, which was going to be there first time after dating for 5 months. She said no and the guy refused to have sex with her and was just asking for advice from the community.

All, if not most, of the comments that she received were all saying the boyfriend was being weird for making a request like that, recording consent doesn’t protect him, it’s accusatory, he lacks trust, it harms the girlfriend because he can just rape her afterwards, he would brag to his buddies about it. Most of it automatically assuming he would use it for nefarious purposes other than just trying to protect himself from the climate that we live in today.

My point of view of all of it that I posted and tried to explain to the rest of them was that, he has every right to want to request a recorded verbal consent from her and not sleep with her if she doesn’t want to play ball. It holds the same principle as a woman wanting a guy to wear a condom during sex. There are boundaries that must be respected in order to have sex with someone given how sacred and private sex should be. Mostly everyone who interacted with me said I was being weird for defending him or I’m insane.

I’ve been just hovering over this sub for a bit but wanted to bring this topic over here to see what everyone thinks. If you want to go see how things are turning out for the original post, you can follow through my comments on my profile. I’ve decided not to look any further because every time I do, I lose a little bit of faith in humanity.
