[...], the rule does not protect groups of people who are in the majority [...]

  • Comment arguing that rape of women should be acceptable and not a crime.

They even have an example contradicting their own rules. And they just had to slip "of women" there instead of just saying:

  • Comment arguing that rape should be acceptable and not a crime.

Interestingly, they do not include "sex" in their extensive listing of protected categories. Or are they saying sex equals gender?

[–]RabidAbyss 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

At least they are willing (though, not strongly apparently) to acknowledge that men can be raped.

[–]denyjunctionfunction 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

These types have admitted that men can be raped for a while now. Only caveat is that only men can rape men.

[–]DanteLivra 11 points12 points13 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"Made to penetrate" is such a useless word that exist solely to not call a women a rapist.

[–]liberalbutnotcrazy 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

They shut down r_GenderCritical which was a rabid TERF sub.

They left off sex for a reason

"For example, the rule does not protect groups of people who are in the majority or who promote such attacks of hate."

The Han Chinese are the single largest ethnic group on the planet. So I'm sure Reddit will follow their new policy on non-marginialized groups in respect to posts critical of the PRC and CCP.

[–]DoubleDollars69 24 points25 points26 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Yeah and they will introduce a new award, Xi Jin Pooh.

[–]VictiniTheGreat00 76 points77 points78 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

Wait so does that mean white people can be racist to Asians as whites are 15% of the worlds population and Asians are 54%?????? This seems like a MAJOR oversight

[–]McFeely_Smackup 23 points24 points25 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I think you read the words, not the intent. The message was clearly " white people are not protected, except white women... Basically fuck white men"

[–]aragonphx 18 points19 points20 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The answer is always fuck white men. They have been taught everything is white mens fault and that is how they feel. The words are to justify how they feel while sounding the least shitty as possible.

[–]NOTcreative- 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Well to be fair they’re not 15% of users. They’re considering the population that has access and free use of Reddit. Not thinking about the world as a whole, just the bubble of this platform.

[–]VictiniTheGreat00 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's a good point, it just seems really vague so Reddit can do whatever the hell they want, this is a really slippery slope that could just spiral into major censorship

[–]TherapeuticMessage 34 points35 points36 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Wouldn’t it have been 1000x easier to just require everyone to follow the rules of not being a dick instead of making all these special exceptions?

[–]excess_inquisitivity 12 points13 points14 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A dick doesn't always think she's a dick.

[–][deleted] 35 points36 points37 points 6 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

Remember when we used to laugh at the easily offended?

Wow, what a time to be fucking alive

[–]Regs2 37 points38 points39 points 6 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

I remember Senate hearings about cursing in music. I remember people getting arrested for selling 2 live crew albums because they talked about sex. Before that there was hysteria about Led Zeppelin being devil worshipers, Elvis shaking his hips, jazz music being evil, and same with the blues before it.

It's funny how some think being snowflake is modern phenomena when people have been pissing and moaning about stupid non consequential BS for time immemorial.

[–][deleted] 14 points15 points16 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

You're absolutely right I stand corrected

[–]Regs2 10 points11 points12 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

No worries, it's usually boomers like my dad unironically talking about snowflakes when he was a loud proponent of banning "offensive" music. It's so cringy to think back to when he was in front of our church congregation reading Black Sabbath lyrics and having everyone clutch their pearls over how offended they were.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I understand that completely yeah, honestly I have never understood it in all situations.

There's a reason radio's come with dials, genres exist just.. YOU HAVE THE OPTION TO MOVE ALONG BUT YOU CHOOSE TO STAY AND COMPLAIN

It blows my mind

[–]shitholejedi3 points 6 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

Yet every media you have pointed out is still in existence today. People moaned and whined for sure but their whines were background noise that didn't affect the product itself.

You want to try to say the same about the media right now? How many things have been revamped or removed just within the first month. The whining might not have changed but the effect certainly has.

[–]liberalbutnotcrazy 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The difference was all of those were driven from the political right (e.g.: PMRC, Christian Right, “won’t somebody please think of the children” brigade)

We truly live in interesting times when it’s the authoritarian left calling for the bans

[–]Lion_amongst_gods 23 points24 points25 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

In the countries where women are the majority (by population), will they apply this rule the same way?

[–]Mode1961 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

NO women are a minority, no matter how many of them there are. This is the real world because I have seen countless like where it says "We will help minorities and women", just like "Women and children".

[–]Lion_amongst_gods 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

NO women are a minority, no matter how many of them there are

Hello Eric Cartman!

[–]ConnorGracie 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Majority = Women, but reddit doesn't seem to know that.

[–]Nergaal 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

facts are racist

[–]Lethn 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I feel like a prophet, I predicted this months ago.

[–]kona_worldwaker 15 points16 points17 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Of course because Reddit is anti-white.

[–]McFeely_Smackup 9 points10 points11 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I live in Detroit, michigan. The population is 85% African American.

So because they're the majority, they're not protected from hate speech?

Why does reddit management hate back people so much?

[–]AdamChap 5 points6 points7 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is their problem, "majority" in what? Positions of power? Then in which country?

Reality is that statistically Jews in the States are disproportionately in positions of power, in comparison to how many of them there are and how many of them are poor - clue: not many. A minority is some respects (total population within country) but not in others. Does this mean that I'm punching up or punching down?

Intersectionality just falls apart right there at the seams. I mean is Reddit really going to police people based on US demographics? Is it going to be protecting Japanese voices speaking on Japanese issues or the white women speaking out within that country? Will they protect the voice of a Chinese official over the voice of an muslim caught in China?

For the "enlightened west," we sure are fucking stupid. Giving voices to the minority is great, but doing so at the detriment of the majority is asking for trouble; no matter who or what majority and minority you pick. It's not just going to be reddit, it's going to be other sites, local governments, institutions.. you name it.

By the looks of the post, where these changes were being discussed ( https://www.reddit.com/r/announcements/comments/hi3oht/update_to_our_content_policy/ ) many Reddit user's are for lack of a better term based enough to voice their opinions on the topic and point out the hypocrisy.

Not only that but if you search Spez https://www.reddit.com/search/?q=spez you can find opinions aplenty. For some people, https://www.reddit.com/r/AgainstHateSubreddits/comments/gv7mtn/steve_spez_huffman_is_finally_claiming_that_black/ , the actions taken by Reddit are too little too late.

It's not a question of whether or not this was a stupid move. It's a question of how stupid. I'm betting on 'very fucking'.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Unacceptable. We should pressure Reddit to include everyone in their hate speech protections.

[–]Nergaal 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

hey there, you are a racist if you think it's not ok to be racist against whites

[–]Kuato2012 4 points5 points6 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm pretty surprised to find that thefairersex actually got banned in this wave. It's kind of shocking, really. Pinkpillfeminism is currently set to private, likely in an attempt to stave off a ban. Femaledatingstrategy was unaffected, not even quarantined.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link

Well considering that there are more women then men in the USA...........

Edit: Sorry gents I dyslecticed the words. I meant to say the above.

[–]BaconCatBug[S] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A very quick search shows "According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there were 161 million females in the U.S. in 2013 versus 156.1 million males."

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Oh shit sorry, I had meant to say that lol. Will edit!

[–]thefudmaster 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Be prepared for a bunch of trolls to come on here and say that rape is permissible.

[–]AdamChap 2 points3 points4 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've had one basically say I should have fought back, with no thought to think that a woman might use that against you further. Real bright ones.

[–]LegendaryEmu1 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nope, men are the perceived majority, actual populations be damned!

The fact that is if you are a "minority" and are allowed to be as hateful as you want to anyone as long as they're a "majority" is essentially passively encouraging discrimination.

Should be illegal in more than one country.

[–]aragonphx 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Basically non white hispanic men are 29.5% of the US population. So the 70% gets a free pass to say all the hateful things they want to them and the white men cannot respond.

[–][deleted] 6 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Plausible deniability

[–]gunkot 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

So basically hate can only be directed to straight, white males.

[–]Koguin 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wtf? So I can make a post about legalizing rape against men but not women?

[–]aurum_32 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, in every situation the majority will always be hetero white males.

[–]ThePigmanAgain 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

No, THAT majority will be an exception -- i guarantee it.

[–]accidental_me 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

It must have been a nightmare to come up with these rules. The worldview they are trying to follow is so illogical and even immoral that it's impossible to make a coherent set of rules. Think if the law code was rewritten according to this same lunacy! In the end also the people they are favoring and "protecting" would end up suffering,.

[–]RedPillCafe 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

The trick here is “or vulnerability” which means cis straight white men

[–]AbysmalDescent 0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That's pretty fucked up to be honest. Not just because it's morally wrong to try to say that's it okay to promote hate against "majorities"(prejudice is wrong no matter who it targets) or that it sets a really bad precedent(not to mention reinforcing divides and escalation from all sides); but because this idea of "majority" is also entirely situational and subject to perception and manipulation.

Perfect example being that women are commonly presented as a "minority group", even when they clearly are not a minority by any measure. If a sub is also frequented by a certain demographic, then that demographic would be the "majority" for that sub. Even reddit as a whole is frequented by a certain demographic of the general population that is, by no means, reflective of the general population(redditers are not the "majority").

Islam is right about women

[–]Unused_UserID 1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know much about Islam so in what way is Islam right about women? Does Islam not put women on a pedastal?

Do these rules lead to equality or superiority?
