The reason is, because equal conscription is something that must be established and affirmed legally in time of peace.

Because, mark my words, in case the shit ever does hit the fan, then feminists will immediately twist their short little hair-dos into tight little curls and talk about how they can't possible be conscripted, it's too hard for them, they have to go jump rope.

Registering for the draft is really just a symbolic thing. Nobody actually gets drafted based on any policy change such as this. It's simply a means of obtaining commitments from women about conscription, in case it should happen. Whether or not a draft actually happens, is a completely different subject.

Of course, you'd rather a draft never occur. That is a completely separate issue.

Don't let your naivety get in the way of real progress for the MRM.

This is not naivety, and I think you need to consider what you think progress is for the Mens Rights movement. Isn't it about giving men rights? Like the right to not have to die for someone else's cause? Is that not the most basic and important right there is?

I'll agree, this is the kind of stuff that needs to be in place before war comes. So under the very unlikely circumstance that a war comes where America's ~1.5 million strong volunteer (or hired, depending on how you look at it) army is not good enough and they need warm bodies, do you really want them to draft men AND women so we can finally have that talk about how it's wrong? That is not the time to be talking about draft reform. I would prefer they just ask me. I'm not saying I wouldn't fight for anything, but sell me on it first. If they can't convince enough people, men or women, to join their cause, then we the people can ask the question "is this a fight worth fighting?"

I also want to drive home the importance of this. Many people here in this thread seem to have forgotten that gender is not the main problem with selective service. Perhaps we're too far removed from a real war where a draft was ever really a possibility. This is literally a life or death issue.

Imagine, with no training and no reason to actually do it but your government's willingness to call you disposable, being forced to put on a uniform (read: target), grab a rifle, and march into a combat zone. There are bullets flying by and people are dying faster to your left and right than you have seen people die throughout the rest of your life combined. Your best hope of living is doing the one thing you've been told your whole life is the worst thing you can do: kill people. It is uncomfortable in every way. Imagine that.

Now, if you're thinking, "you know what would make this better? Gender equality." GTFO. Are you serious? This is literally a life or death situation and you are concerned about how unfair it is that women weren't forced into it? You're not making men's right better, you're making human rights worse.

Congress can declare war without a vote from the people. They can also reinstate the draft without a vote. Even if they needed a vote, I'm still not sure we should make the unwilling minority fight if we have a willing majority.

As for the responsibilities that come with rights, which rights do you have that would come with the responsibility of killing and dying? I mean, I understand I have the responsibility to fight when there's a real threat that needs to be dealt with, but the right I should have to go with that is the right to decide when there's a threat that needs to be dealt with.

And as for your last statement, maybe I am too dense, but I still can't think of any right more basic than deciding what I would give my life for. If someone else can choose that, all of your other rights are moot. Unless you think the right to a proper burial is extremely important, that is.

Absolutely it makes things better for men if women are drafted equally. In the horrible circumstance where your country chooses to involuntarily conscript for combat, rather than surrender, every male in the country has half the chance of being drafted for combat as they would be, if it were a male-only draft.

Plus, every woman who ever votes in this country for a politician who favors or votes for war needs to know that it is not just their "expendable" male sub-human servants who will be losing lives in case of a draft. It will also be women, just like, or even including, themselves.

Women have had the right to vote for the last 100 years in the west, and yet not a single female in the west has been drafted to die in a war.

You can look back in history, and you will discover that time after time, women have voted in large numbers for jingoist candidates who have slaughtered men by the hundreds of thousands, sometimes millions, and they have done so with little regard for male lives, seeking protections only for their own.

That has to end. Sorry!

There are, and will continue to be, many people who yearn for the opportunity for glorious battle (and a non-zero percentage of them will be women). I expect it's half the reason we can still get people to willingly sign up for the armed forces now, without the draft. If given a good reason to fight, even more can be expected to join.

I guess my point is, I don't care who is elected or by whom. Call me a libertarian, but if there is any right we should give to individuals, it's the right to choose when to go to war. As "the most free country" in "the most advanced human civilization to ever exist," this is possible and should be how it is.

There is no draft, therefore it can't be gotten rid of. In fact, nothing can truly be gotten rid of, so far as future events are concerned.

There is no possibility of eliminating conscription. You could abolish selective service registration tomorrow, but in case of significant war, politicians will simply initiate a draft, and the same people will end up being forced to serve anyway.

The only respectable solution, is to make sure that all people, including all women, have an equal obligation to serve in combat in case a draft is called, so that those who elect those who call for war or call for draft, are eligible to be drafted themselves.

It's unacceptable to empower half the population which claims immunity from conscription, empowered to vote to send the other half to death.

That precedent needs to be established now, in times peace, to be sure that those who claim immunity from conscription to combat based on illegitimate grounds, don't vote based on a presumption that the lowly "expendable" male servants of society are the only ones who will sacrifice.

That's something I actually oppose. If a huge conflict arises and we essentially need cannon fodder, I couldn't imagine sending my 18 year old daughter, or my wife, sisters, etc.

Although I have no daughter or wife I am an infantryman. I couldn't bear to see it.

Not saying I'd enjoy sending my son or anything, but that job is for men
