Serious question: Why do they keep saying they were both abusive in the Depp-Heard case?

because if a woman punches a man in the head every day for two years, and the man breaks her cell phone, "both are abusers"

it's a baby step back from "believe all women" when it's just not possible to pretend to believe Amber any more. it's a way to acknowledge the indisputable facts, but still couch her as a victim.

Because most people are too uncomfortable just to simply place the blame entirely on the woman. There always has to be a justification for what they do so obviously the man must be an abuser aswell!

I wouldn’t say they were both “victims”. So far Depp appears to be a victim of abuse.

The only thing Amber Heards team is trying to do is claim that having a yelling match is abuse. That’s not abuse and anyone who claims arguments can be classified as abuse is opening the door for plenty of “victims” to come forward. Men or women. I would only call something verbal abuse if it was mostly one sided and they were being berated with threats and demeaning insults.

If you listened to the "psychologist" today, you can get an idea how.

She is so biased, I don't even understand how she made it to curt. She even said something along the lines of that men are usually larger than women and because of that women pretty much cannot abuse men.

She accuses men of for example "grabbing a glass forcefully" and already labels this as abuse.

The whole interview (or whatever you'd call that I'm not a native English speaker) was ridiculous.

It’s an attempt to downplay and dismiss the issue so they can keep the pretence that dv is a gendered crime. Notice how people also say they don’t care about “celebrity gossip” but then seem to know how they’re both abusive so they’re clearly interested.

From what I can tell, they've gotten in to shouting matches, Depp hit a wall in frustration, and used illegal substances. I don't think any of this counts as abuse, and most are indirectly caused by Heard gaslighting and not allowing him to leave the relationship as you said, but a courtroom bias is possible

Not too hard to figure out, the woman was clearly the aggressor, they have to find a way to minimize what she did and justify it, you know that think they like to call victim blaming any time a woman is held responsible for her bad behavior.

Because they are defending Heard and women in general. They do not want to admit that women can solely be abusers of male people. So they offer this as a smokescreen to placate critics who know the truth.

There are three things to consider. First, was Depp abusive? Probably, he threw objects and punched walls. He grabbed or smashed her phone. I don't remember which. When Taylor Swift had the video blank spce, we all agreed that it depicted her being abusive because she burned his stuff. I don't have an issue calling breaking items abuse. Second as feminists like to point out, there are levels of abuse. The abuse she perpetrated on him was a lot more serious than anything he did to her. Severing a part of a finger is more serious than being called a name. Third, the testemony showed that his abuse was always reactive. She abused him first.

In light of the third, let's re-examine the first. If he only retaliated, was he really abusive or was it essentially self defense? Feminists would argue killing an abusive husband is self defense. Why wouldn't reciporcal abuse where one person is only reactionary not be comsidered self defense? Personally, I don't think it's self defense unless you're fighting off an attack, but I also think you should be consistent. Since the law recognizes retailiatory abuse as self defense, it should be viewed as such in this case.

Why do feminists want to view retaliatory abuse as just as bad as regular abuse in this case? Because it benefits a woman and to some extent discredits the professional victimhood industry.
