Yep, my wife forces our sons to keep short hair "because that's normal", when my eldest son wants to wear nail polish she protests, gender roles only exist because women enforce them.

The way you highlight 600 parents like that’s a significant number. It’s not. Not even close. What is important is the demographics of the study. If it’s 600 parents all within similar backgrounds, then it isn’t a reflection of diverse opinions. This is exactly why science has a trust issue at the moment. And much skewed evidence.

And almost every man has said they were told to “man up” by father figures. In fact, “don’t show weakness” is pushed by all Rp, which is exactly what man up means.

Then there is my parents who threatened me if I cried😅. My dad said the reason he did it all those years growing up is he believed I was trying to manipulate them. Honestly I feel like that is a lie because half the time it had nothing to do with them. Oh and don’t I dare be angry, as a child I have no right to get angry. And when I was happy I was a nuisance. So basically I wasn’t allowed to be human and show any emotions (people think I am stoic and at times have very little emotion, but it is not that. I was just taught not to show it so even when I feel sad for someone it comes off cold). I became a very cold person for a time and they always went “what is wrong with you. Why so cold?”. I could not win with them no matter what I did. My mom treated me and my sisters like we were monsters and my dad did not help much either. I once aspired to be like my dad and admired him. Now the pain he has left is something I will have to carry for the rest of my life. I feel like my mom is trying to make amends for the way they treated me and my sisters growing up. My dad is still as angry as ever. I understand his father was not good to him, but he doesn’t have to take it out on us. I want to believe my parents are trying and gonna be better, I just hope they don’t prove me wrong once again. I hope this time it is different.

Still to this day I feel like a monster that can never do anything right. Something that no one can love. I remember in high school everyone either called me big sister or mom in my group because of the way I looked after everyone. It made me feel like I had to be strong for them and never falter. Sadly when I became homeless no one really cared…and David did not know till after. He was actually the first person to get infuriated about my parents. He is shy and timid, very quiet (except when he is around me that is). I feel like I for once am protected with my emotions and I protect him from others. He’s all I got. I am also very proud of him. He has grown to do so much in the time we didn’t see each other. It was nice when we met up again because even though three years had passed since we saw each other we picked up from last time we saw each other. As comfortable around each other as ever.
