Oh for Pete's sake the tech companies bend over backwards to recruit any woman they can into the fucking programming jobs where they get favorable treatment afterwards on the grounds of gender alone!!!! It is not the fault of any "brogrammer" culture that women self-select away from STEM in droves, they always have, and frankly one gets the idea that the feminists want to institute a female dominated man-hating culture in technology workplaces, they can't cope with things being any different.

Enough of this bitching about how "hostile" it is in technology the only hostility that is there is the hostility the feminist-brainwashed workers bring with them!!

I've got 25 years in technology now behind me. This bullshit from the feminist circles is just that, bullshit. Jesus Christ world let me die of old age soon so I can quit beholding finally the disaster that is American heterosexuality, the American gender wars, and the pathetic wretched oppressed tortured princess American woman.

Its like these moronic feminists are going after easy targets like soft spoken and socially awkward men who tend to be programmers, gamers, scientists( even noble laureates are not immune), because these are the only people who would put up with their BS and actually feel guilty about real or imagined slights . While people who actually abuse and treat women like shit are going about their business as usual. Its like trying to beat up a weak person to create terror.

I am too scared of even talking to the women programmers at my work these days. I just tend to agree with everything they do and offer no criticism what so ever.

Likewise, given what a minefield it is working with women in technology, I only interact with the women I work with when it is a functional requirement of the work at hand, and then it is only professional engagement, and anytime I see any potential conflict emerging, I just give them they want to avoid the obligatory complaint of "sexism" if they don't get what they want.

That's sexist! Reported to HR and sued.

The miserable American princess whines yet again about non-existent cultural persecution because for 40 years now she's been able to guilt-trip and shame society into giving her everything she wants on her terms using our natural tendencies to have sympathy for women.

NEXT.

What Do Terms Like Bro And Brogrammer Really Mean?

The urban dictionary definition covers what most people would think a “bro” is, yet such a definition means that terms like “brogrammer” are a contradiction in terms. The definition of “bro” is consistent with what most people think frat guys and jersey shore guidos are like, not programmers. Most people think of programmers as men who lack social skills and maybe even have borderline Aspergers syndrome. Their idea of a programmer is a man who neither is part of a fraternity nor is at a lot of parties. (While programmers can come from all walks of life, the issue in question when it comes to defining terms like “bro” and “brogrammer” is people’s perceptions.) As far as most people’s perceptions are concerned, a “brogrammer” logically can not exist. The question must be asked, “why does the term, ‘brogrammer’, exist?” and “why would anyone say that a lot of frat guys and similar types have taken over the tech industry?”

Looking at how the terms, “bro” and “brogrammer”, are used by feminists reveals a different definition of the word being used by feminists. Ann Friedman writing in New York Magazine shows us what feminists really mean by terms like “bro” and “brogrammer”:

“Bro” once meant something specific: a self-absorbed young white guy in board shorts with a taste for cheap beer. But it’s become a shorthand for the sort of privileged ignorance that thrives in groups dominated by wealthy, white, straight men. “Bro” is convenient because describing a professional or social dynamic as “overly white, straight, and male” seems both too politically charged and too general

To feminists terms like “bro” and “brogrammer” are synonyms for straight white male. As Ann Friedman reveals, feminists can’t just say straight white men when they mean straight white men because it’s too “politically charged”. In other words, if feminists talk about straight white men, it’s obvious that feminists just hate straight white men. Instead, feminists are now using the term “bro” to make people think they’re only talking about a frat guy subset of straight white men when feminists are talking about all straight white men. It’s a trick by feminists to avoid criticism because most people aren’t going to defend stereotypical frat guy behavior whereas they might have a problem with blanket attacks on straight white men.

This also reveals that the term, “brogrammer”, is really just an attack on men in the tech industry. The explains the contradictions in people perceptions of a bro and a programmer. It has nothing to do with the behavior of men in the tech industry. What feminists really have a problem with in the tech industry is that there is a large group of men employed in jobs that aren’t under their control. Like with the term, “bro”, using the term, “brogrammer”, is an attempt by feminists to avoid criticism from people who might have a problem with blanket attacks on men working in the tech industry.

In conclusion, whenever a feminist use the term, “bro” or “brogrammer”, just replace it with straight white men or men in the tech industry as appropriate. By doing that, what feminists really mean when using those terms will become clear.

Well-said. I also noticed the inconsistency between the word "bro" and the typical programmer.

[–]SilencingNarrative 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

The article asserts that male programmers have built and maintained a culture that alienates women and turns them off to programming. He supports this claim by citing some ads containing sexual innuendo and lawsuits by women against software companies.

I wonder how hard it would be to demonstrate the truth or falsehood of this assertion without relying on a handful of anecdotes followed by an appeal to "come on, we all just know this is true!"

[–]ahatabat 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

It might be impossible to change his mind, because he might be looking at the world in a different way.

Equality is when skilled women that choose to be in tech have the same opportunities as skilled men that choose to be in tech. We might already be there, or close to it.

He might not want equality, but instead an environment where women are forced to enter tech when they don't want to work in it, or where unskilled women are treated the same as skilled men in order to pad the numbers. Or where men are forced out of tech until the numbers are the same.

[–]Keiichi81 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Otherwise known as "equity" rather than "equality". If you haven't noticed, that word is all the rage these days. Equality of outcome is the goal rather than equality of opportunity...

[–]Demonspawn 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Where are people getting this definition of "equity"? I've only heard the word in economic contexts where it means "you get what you earn" as opposed to equality where "everone is paid the same, irrespective to the amount they produced"

IIRC the gender compensation study used "equality" to describe female leader pay distribution (women paid subordinates equally) and used "equity" to describe the male pay distribution (men paid more to subordinates who produced more).

We might already be there, or close to it.

We were much closer five years ago than we are now, because morons like him are doing their best to scare women away with tales of misogyny.

[–]dominotw 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

and the recent and unsuccessful sex discrimination suit by Ellen Pao against venture-capital firm

It doesn't matter that it was unsuccessful, its still a proof of sexual discrimination.

[–]crackinthewall 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Or that there were evidence that proves that yes, discrimination with her previous firm- they supported her waaaaay better than anyone else. I long for the day when criticism of a person would not devolve into misogyny/misandry! because everyone is smart enough to know that each individual has inexcusable faults.

[–]ahatabat 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Even in this day of Coder Grrrls, Girls Who Code and other support systems for women in technology, almost 50% of the females in science, engineering and tech positions quit those fields by mid-career, twice the proportion of men.

This is actually proof that a 50:50 mix of men and women in tech is not a realistic goal. At absolute best you'll have 66:33.

Are we still allowed to use logic, or is logic now sexist?

[–]Alzael 8 points9 points10 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

is logic now sexist?

It's been sexist for years. It's also abusive to women, you asshole woman-beater apologist!

[–]brokedown 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Facts are just another piece of the patriarchy.
