Main reasoning is that women simply aren't as good as men in combat almost across the board. At least from what I've seen.

I think it's mainly because it's a discussion that should be had and worked on outside the perils of imminent threats because if the enemy is around the corner you don't want to be caught bickering over who should go meet them else they catch you off guard.

But on the flip side the general argument outside of imminent threat is "well it's not an issue so there's no need to change it now." so to me its really hard for me to work out, from a purely tactical stand point, when to have that discussion in a productive manner. It seems like the tactical necessity of just having troops at the ready is in contradiction with the sort of discussion of shared responsibility (or shared...potential tragedy) that needs to happen in regards to selective service / draft equality.

I think part of the friction to get women bound by selective service though is that I don't know how built out the framework is for women in the military. I mean, we've got a pretty strong history of just men in warfare so I'd argue that there's already a some-what working framework for how to train men. I don't know that there's a framework as efficient for women. And I think there's a question as to what a framework for women's military training would look simply due to biological differences between the sexes like average strength etc. (even if training ends up being slightly different I don't know that we know HOW it would or wouldn't be different, that is. So I think we'd need to figure those bits out first in order to impose the same draft on women.)

I haven't look into selective service / the draft hugely, but my understanding is that it hasn't been switch in part because this idea that women need to be protected, but also due to evidence indicating the troop units with men intermixed with women perform worse. My guess / hope is that the military leaders are just as sort of disconnected as your average CEO, and really only cares about results. So I think if equality in selective service / the draft is the goal there would need to be a focus on how to better enable mixed military units (or even female only units). Hopefully then the argument of "but these hopeless women need to be protected" also no longer stands up because, well, why protect them if they're competent, effective, and clearly not hopeless in war?

So to end and sort of TLDR all that:
I think it's a shitty, unfair set-up we should keep pressure on. But, I would guess the rational, given recent geopolitical instability, to sweep it under the rug and not talk about it is because time may be of the essence and figuring out how the average woman fits into the military + train them may take more time than simply using the brutish, male-degrading, old system and only needing to train men.

They haven't changed it because feminists use their ideology to frame all sexism issues as secretly womens issues, and naturally this one doesn't rank important to them.

Sort of like if we decided all sexism issues are mens issues then prioritized things so only the ones that actually negatively impact males directly instead of through some abstracted nonsensical ideological process got solved.

Feminists will naturally prioritize issues that are actually womens issues. They may say they'll get around to these eventually, but that's just it. By demanding all issues be seen as womens issues they make it so men can't organize to fight the things actually impacting them directly in their own movement.

Like if men up and decided all sexism was about men somehow, naturally we'd focus on shit actually bad for men, and not issues like sexual objectification of women because while we might be able to come up with some ridiculous rationalization for how that's secretly all about us and people hating us, we wouldn't actually *care* about it to the same extent as we do our own issues. That's why the draft hasn't been solved; we've allowed feminists to engage in an epistemic injustice against men for decades where they annex mens issues into being about women, thus allowing feminists to prioritize "Womens issues" how they see fit, with mens issues falling to the bottom of that list because they're only "Womens issues" in an abstract sense and only if you insist on using a broken ideological framework. They don't actually harm women to remain unresolved, so nothing gets done.

Like if we drank the same kool aid and decided all issues were mens issues and men were ultimately the victims of them and the arbiters of which ones were more important, we'd do the same. We'd rank the issues that actually directly harm men as super important and the ones that only abstractly harm them as less important. It's one of the most crucial ways feminism is an anti-male ideology.
