Through out my youth; because of the way I was brought up in NYC, I was about 33 and ill with strep throat before I took a seat on a NYC subway. What I mean to say is that if there was anyone in need of a seat is what not me. My parents instructed me to always give my seat to the elderly, the disabled, women who are pregnant and then women. As a young man I was only allowed to sit when the subway or bus was empty. for decades I did that, but once when I was very ill, traveling back home I asked a women sitting in front of me if I could have her seat, she shunned me, I repeated it and she said no. I look along the long bench of seats and not a man in sight to ask, but all the women looked away. My Karma had not seemed to be working and indeed it did not. I suffered for the next 30 minutes to my stop with out any help or relief. Since that day, I will do nothing to help a women, disabled, pregnant or not. I should disclose that I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran (100%) disabled but it is a blind disability that you would not see and it's physical not mental. Women young and old don't care and only pay lip service to our veterans, giving up a seat when one asks for it should be enough if we all really cared about each other.

I should disclose that I am a disabled Vietnam Veteran

Women young and old don't care and only pay lip service to our veterans

Friendly reminder: they voted multiple times for men like you to go die in an unjust draft war (even if you in particular volunteered) as late as 1972, knowing that they would never ever be forced to serve or expected to contribute at all.

As a society we have to pretend to be unaware of the open secret that women don't give a shit about men at all unless men are doing something for them, or the whole thing collapses. Personally, I think it needs to collapse.

[–][deleted] 9 points10 points11 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

"They." No, "they" didn't. Women don't exist as an amorphic blob, same as men. There were women who voted long ago to send me to war, but that hardly has anything to do with the majority of women today.

[–]InWadeTooDeep -1 points0 points1 point 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Significantly pregnant women are the exception.

[–][deleted] 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Elderly people are exceptions also.

I should note 50 isn't old. I'm talking 70+ or with a walker / cane. But then that also falls into disabled.

OP was disabled from the illness. Personally I would have sat on the floor (and just burned the clothing later).

Once this 40s/early50s woman trying to look 16 came onto the bus, acting really horrid to the driver. I offered her my seat to rest her 'poor bones'. The look on her face.

[–]KrisK_lvin 18 points19 points20 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Relax, she's a liar.

Why?

See the thread with the exact same link called a Woman who sits on and kicks teenage boy called courageous.

[–]billbuxtable 33 points34 points35 points 11 years ago* (29 children) | Copy Link

If some random stranger sat on my lap, I'd immediately reach around and grab a handful of tit and start flicking at the nips - We'll see who wins that battle of comfort.

[–]InWadeTooDeep 21 points22 points23 points 11 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

That is not a viable plan because people would get pissed. A better plan would be to appropriately hug/hold her waist/hips and flex your boner.

[–]billbuxtable 10 points11 points12 points 11 years ago* (5 children) | Copy Link

Heh, maybe even whisper something extremely awkward in her ear like: "I can smell your socks from here."

Not to sound harsh but, let them get pissed - it takes being that pro-active about something a few times before some people get the hint. Think of it this way - if she just plopped down on someone's lap and they made her instantly feel like she needed either a shower or a therapist then I promise you she will think long and hard before doing it again.

[–]InWadeTooDeep 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

I meant that third parties would get pissed if you started pinching her nipples, which is understandable...and bad.

[–]billbuxtable 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago* (3 children) | Copy Link

True, you're right, they would, and perhaps I responded a bit harshly; however, they would also see her plop her self-righteous ass on my lap as well. If it takes pissing off a couple bystanders, so be it - something needs to be done in a situation like this. Done, not said.

I wouldn't mind taking the flak if it shuts her little tantrum down. I sit like this from time to time just unaware of it, and I'm the type to immediately apologize and slide over if someone brings it to my attention. She's acting like guys are just: "muahaha, I'll show everyone what's up by sitting like this!"

Sometimes I feel that worrying about what third parties will think(I'm guilty of it too) is what enables people to act like she does.

Although I did like the hug/boner-grind idea.

[–]InWadeTooDeep 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Third-parties are liable to beat the shit out of you, irrelevant of how badly she behaves.

[–]billbuxtable 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That's a risk. But then again, third parties are liable to get the shit beat out of them. Don't let fear make decisions like that for you, that is exactly why this kind of thing is becoming more and more common.

She knows that too, she's very much relying on some knight in shining acne to jump in and save the day if anything goes wrong. If she has that image shattered for her even just once, I promise you she'll think twice about the next lap she sits on.

[–]InWadeTooDeep 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Unlikely, the third party is almost always the largest party.

[–]elebrin 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

I wouldn't do that, but I'd pull out my knife.

[–]way2dumb2live 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Why do you carry i knife around?

[–]elebrin 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Used to live in a bad neighborhood, some habits die hard.

[–]BorisIvanovich 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

In the US most people I know do. It's just a general use tool

[–]way2dumb2live 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Are we talking about a swiss army knife or a full in combat/hunting knife?

[–]way2dumb2live 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Are we talking about a swiss army knife or a full in combat/hunting knife?

[–]BorisIvanovich 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends on the person. I've seen the whole gamut. Most common are spring assist locking blades.

[+]Requi3m -15 points-14 points-13 points 11 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

You need a knife against a woman? Really dude? Great way to get a felony on your record.

[–]elebrin 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

Didn't say I'd use it or even open it. Just get it out, and set it on my knee. I really don't like people touching me.

[+]Requi3m -15 points-14 points-13 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Just get it out, and set it on my knee.

Still a felony. I'm assuming you're a man and so you're stronger than she is. Push her off you.

[–]elebrin 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'm not all that strong, and I never claimed to be a good person.

[+]Requi3m -25 points-24 points-23 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Well if you're a man by default you are stronger than a woman.

edit: apparently men's rights advocates are noodly armed pussies who need to pull knives on people. Thanks for reminding me you retards are just as radical and illogical as feminists. Time to unsubscribe.

You are truly pathetic individuals if you need to pull a knife on a weak ass woman.

Upvoting mr. stabby man. Wow! I honestly expected better from you guys. Goodbye forever.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I'm going to once again suggest to anyone thinking of retaliating to any degree more than pushing them off of you if someone does this: Call the police. Sitting on somebody is battery.

(It is not assault like people keep saying. Assault is a threat. Battery is physically touching another person, even if it causes no harm.)

[–]bobbage 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

No you wouldn't.

[–]billbuxtable 17 points18 points19 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Hey, you might succumb to her bullshit act and do exactly as she intended and just "take it", but don't assume you can speak for anyone else. I'd have no problem escalating this situation into one that turns the tables quick.

EDIT: Why not

[–]Akasha20 -2 points-1 points0 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

Do you want to register as a sex offender? That's how you get arrested for sexual assault.

[–]billbuxtable 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

I'll just say she just sat down and started grinding my crotch - since the scenario described in this comment chain is talking about some stranger plopping into your lap.

FFS, this isn't a situation that anyone would want to be placed in, I'm simply saying there is no fucking way I'd tolerate it like some would.

[–]Akasha20 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think any woman who does this is fucking crazy, but also more likely to be believed by officers/strangers/courts. All she'd need to do is shout 'help, he's assaulting me' and you'd probably be in a world of shit, even if you were doing nothing. It's not something I'd wish on anyone either.

[–]chavelah -4 points-3 points-2 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

If you had your leg in the seat next to the one occupied by your ass, and then somebody sat in that seat and thus sat on part of your leg, you'd grab their tit?

I think not. I think you'd accept the social correction, move your leg into your own space, and realize that you had been an asshole.

She didn't sit on the guy's lap. She sat in the adjoining seat. He put his leg in that seat, so his leg got sat on. There is no issue here.

[–]billbuxtable 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

No, the conversation built into someone just plopping into your lap - you say read the article, I say read the previous comments. Had I had my leg in the other seat and someone sat on it, yea I'd be taken back a little but no big deal because of the obvious, that and I had most likely done it without thinking and with no malicious intent, but a simple: "excuse me" just to call my attention to it would have been appropriate as well.

The discussion in this comment chain was focusing on someone who was actually in your lap(see the part where one response mentioned hugging, etc... it wouldn't make sense to hug someone next to you). Mostly because of the "tactics" she described using, not just that guy.

EDIT: Typos, etc...

[–]chavelah 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I think that most of the comments on this thread are based on a misunderstanding of the original story. Probably because the linked article is not the original story.

[–]Lance_lake 12 points13 points14 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

A few days ago, I was on the bus and this woman was pushing me pretty hard physically because I dared to put my arm up on the barrier between her seat and mine.

I told her that if she is going to hit people, she should expect to get hit. So she hit me and I hit her back.

I'm not proud of what I did, but if this woman were to do this to me, I would push her off me.

[–][deleted] 6 points7 points8 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

sitting on random strangers laps... sounds like some one has daddy issues.

What we'll see in the news is her doing this to the wrong knife carrying patron

[–]FangornForest 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can I just say that almost every day I see woman who sit on the train and take up 2 seats with their bag. It's like they don't want ANYONE to sit next to them... I mean, who knows... they could get raped or something.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Only one solution. Sit on women's bags when they leave it on the seat next to the. We're all about equality, right?

[–]Frittern 5 points6 points7 points 11 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I know men are a lot less likely to give up their seat to a women today than in decades past. I wonder if man spreading issue is just resentment from this loss of status leaking out.

[–]MrEddyKempSir 4 points5 points6 points 11 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Right guys, I follow this sub religiously, but some of these responses are just awful. We complain about getting a bad reputation but this really doesn't help.

We should be addressing issues that actually matter, not trivialised bullshit like this.

[–]Swiggy 3 points4 points5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

On the face this may seem trivial but look at what this manufactured "manspreading" phenomenon is actually doing. Do you really think men are solely responsible for taking up multiple seats on public transportation? This should not be a gender based issue. If someone only jumped on minorities for a rude public behavior there would be calls to charge them with a hate crime and there certainly wouldn't be a fluff piece in the MSM about it.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points3 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

How is our society and my generation so void of courage to face actual problems that we consider this to be "fighting the good fight"?

We need some sort of mass tragedy to cull these fucking retards.

[–]The_0bserver 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

If someone sits on you (without your permission), you hav the full right of pushing the person off u no?

[–]atomcrusher 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ah yes, the classic "let's counter someone being a dick by being an even bigger dick" move.

[–]kilkil 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

This is actually kind of scary.

I mean, if I'm on the subway, and I'm unintentionally taking up space you'd like to sit in, just tell me. Don't fucking sit on me, I didn't ask for your human contact.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Can't wait for the article about a "courageous" man telling a woman to move her purse and then kicking her and sitting on her.

Oh no wait everyone would be calling for him to be thrown in jail for assault.

[–]Capitalsman 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Having tasted blood, Ms Sneider went into predator mode and found her next unsuspecting victim — a teenage boy who laughed when she politely asked him to remove his bag from the only unoccupied seat. After forcing her way into the seat and delivering a kick to the teen in the process, Ms Sneider felt vindicated.

Nice to see assaulting a minor is perfectly ok for women, not to mention involving the words "predator mode" and "unsuspecting victim" between a 18+ female and a teenage boy within the same sentence and pedophilia not be brought up..

I'm amazed they managed to get a picture of a guy "manspreading" in an over the top way with people next to him, even though it's sectioned seating and his knees are past those little arm rest things. But how long until she sits on or kicks the wrong person and suddenly she is the victim of toxic masculinity?

[–]thetallone1985 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

someone comes up, sits on me while I'm just sitting and minding my own business? I'd ask for her name and number, and if she asked why I needed it, I'd just tell her I'm taking her to court for assault, all while recording the altercation.

[–]ExpendableOne 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Until that one day when one of them sits on a guy who enjoys it, and then he'd basically be the man who sexually assaulted the woman who sat on him.

[–]AtomicBLB 0 points1 point2 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Her name is stated as "Ms." so I'm hardly surprised by her poor behaviour. She will have that title likely until she is cold in the ground with her winning personality.

[+]Madlibsluver -8 points-7 points-6 points 11 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

So, it seems like manspreading is a guy spreading his leg while being inconsiderate of those around him, yeah? Like, invading their space.

While I agree that this persons move is technically illegal, I think that it's justified to get angry at people who do that.

Edit

Not surprised

Went against the hive mind. No debate. Just down votes.

[+]GenderNeutralLanguag -18 points-17 points-16 points 11 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

This has been my solution to "Manspreading". I've seen it twice in 2 decades of riding the buss (though not in NYC). Twice in two decades have I seen someone taking up multiple seats when the bus was standing room only. I as a 300 pound man sat in his lap, and he very quickly unoccupied his 2nd seat.

Taking action like this is perfectly reasonable when it's actually a space issue. The problem with "Manspreading" is that it's not about space. Just look at the arrests, they happen after midnight on mostly empty trains. Everyone in the entire car could lay down across 4 seats and sill have room left over.

I mean hell, look at the pic they used as an example of "Manspreading". That dude has a bag between his feet, and his knees are only a little wider than the bag with out actually taking up more than one seat. I can understand doing something when a person is taking up multipule seats on a standing room only train/bus, but this almost never happens.

[–][deleted] 7 points8 points9 points 11 years ago* (1 child) | Copy Link

Taking action like this is perfectly reasonable when it's actually a space issue.

lol boo, no. It is not. It's the complete opposite of "perfectly reasonable". perfectly reasonable behavior is to say, "excuse me, sir? Could you move over a little?" "Oh, sorry!" "No problem, thanks!"

That is perfectly reasonable. And the off chance the person doesn't respond well, they are simply an asshole. Just as a woman who would have her bags on the seat and wouldn't move them for you if you asked nicely. Assholes exist, but most people are just minding their own business and would oblige if asked.

The problem is people not speaking up about what they want and expecting the world to bend to their will instead. No one is going to read your mind and adapt to your thoughts.

Also the guy in the picture, is in a seat with arm rests. So there's no way to "take up two seats". It just makes it less comfortable. And you could awkwardly rub your leg up against his and he'd get the message, or you could be nice and again ask him to make some room so you can sit more comfortably. But that's hard.

[+]GenderNeutralLanguag -7 points-6 points-5 points 11 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Guess I wasn't clear. First line of action is ask them to vacate the second seat. It's only if they refuse to be a decent person that being an asshole to them becomes reasonable.

Also I agree, the man in the picture is not being unreasonable. To call his behavior problematic is the problem. If the person on either side of him wished to "claim space" all they have to do is uncross their legs.

There does exist problematic behavior that could be called "Man Spreading". This behavior is exceptionally rare. We need to not be feminists in asserting that our in-group does no wrong.
