The Duluth Model should not be 'improved' in the same way the Food Pyramid wasn't and should not have been 'improved'. Both are fundamentally flawed systems based on propaganda and political pressures more than actual science and facts. Both cause more harm and misinformation than they help or inform.

No matter what you do to any future Duluth Model it will still be based on the foundations of a deeply flawed and biased system. A future model for domestic violence should have absolutely nothing to do with the Duluth Model. And if it does you'll know its just another layer of propaganda layered on top of the original.

It can’t be “improved” to make it “gender neutral”.

The whole thing is based entirely on feminist ideology, despite their pretence that it is not. The claim is that men commit DV against women due to the desire to “control them”, as agents of a patriarchal society. You see they’re “socialised” to do this. And the Duluth model is not applied to women. It’s defender’s actually say this as if it somehow answers the criticisms.

So how can you possibly make any of this be made “gender inclusive”?

And can you drop this “straight and cis gender” bs. They’re the overwhelming majority of couples anyway, and I do not see how it is going to help men if you enforce a rigidly doctrinaire program with dubious results at best on gay men too.

It's blatant that females abuse males and females a lot. Yet, people often minimize and overlook such. That's the issue with the Duluth model.

It is specially design to be gender exclusive. This is why feminists have all the sources on how only men perpetrate domestic violence. All stats on domestic violence are based on Duluth Model.

It's pretty simple to identify the problem; it doesn't describe reality accurately.

As others have already said, the problem with the Duluth Model is that it was based upon biases and assumptions rather than facts.

NONE of the feminists who developed the model had any background in behavioral psychology or therapy.. yet they seemed to think that they understood the reasons behind Domestic Violence than people in these fields would.

Right at the outset the biggest issue is with how the model assumes that in all cases of Domestic Violence involving a man and a woman, the man is ALWAYS the offender while the woman is ALWAYS the victim.

As a result 'men' can not be victims of domestic violence according to this model. Not only that but if you follow this along you will see that the statistics show that domestic violence SEEMS to be an issue which predominantly affects women.
But that's obvious when the only statistics we are recording are the ones which agree with the assumed conclusion / bias.
Now, to be clear there ARE women who are affected by domestic violence and they do need support.
However there are also many men out there who are victims of abuse by their female partner who go ignored because this failed excuse for a model has decreed that "ONLY MEN CAN BE ABUSERS!!!"

If you need further proof of how flawed this model is go take a look at their Power and Control Wheel

MANY of the things they list can equally apply to women yet the focus is on how apparently only men use these things to control women..

In short, you can't fix what is already fundamentally broken, and frankly I would be further insulted if people tried to take this disgusting model and "Make it more gender neutral"
I would instead prefer we acknowledge that the Duluth Model is and always has been based upon biases and flawed assumptions and replace it with a model which is based upon accurate studies instead.

don't bother , its been debunked( even by one of the originators of it).

Theres nothing more appallingly than a workshop for male victims of DV being given a copy of the duluth model power wheel which was blaming men....

I think it was bettina ardnt who pointed out strauss and others who have produced decades of research into DV that is more credible
