The message in itself is not wrong.

What I hate about it, is, that it gives the impression that men need to be told that sexy dresses don't mean "she is asking for it."

I know exactly ONE guy in reallife who thinks like this, but every other man I know would never say "she was asking for it".

So, yes, of course a woman wearing a sexy dress is not asking to be raped, but why tell the world when no sane man would actually think like this?

To be charitable, it's a bit like feminists and rape campaigners just sort of lack basic comprehension.

I've never heard anyone say a rape victim was 'asking for it'; at best (or worst) someone might think or say 'well, if you will get drunk in front of 25 drunken footballers, start pole-dancing, simulate oral sex with a bottle and then drag two of them into a cupboard and start making out, then you might find some scepticism expressed about your intentions if a rape trial ensues'.

For example, I have heard the phrase 'he was asking for it' used to refer to a man who deliberately provokes a fight with a stranger. I don't think physical appearance crosses that threshold.

It is a strawman argument used to try to garner emotional support rather than logical discourse. It looks as if it has a deep message until you consider that the people who believe some styles of clothing mean a rape victim is asking for it are in the minority and do not reflect the consensus of western society.

It amazes me that when we look at crime in general the authorities give advice on how to avoid it. For example, I'm told to lock my doors and windows in my house to prevent burglary. If I went on holiday and didn't lock the doors to my house and got burgled I'm pretty sure my insurance company wouldn't pay up and would say that I was to blame. Yet as soon as you just give advice on how a women could avoid rape suddenly it's "blaming the victim". Why do we have a different set of rules for rape as we do for avoiding all other crimes?

EDIT: I'm not saying it's ok to blame the victim; it's just an observation.

Hrms.. of course they aren't asking to get raped. However, they are advertising with many of those dresses that they want male/female attention (depending on their sexuality.) It's too bad you can't control what form that comes in. Saying that some of those manners of dressing aren't sexual is just closing your eyes, putting your fingers in your ears, and yelling really loud.
