It’s always tricky with the wording. You almost always have to find the actual questions they asked to see how biased they were to find what the author wanted to find.

At my job every year they always ask everyone a question that always scores low and every year when we discuss the results I point out how it’s a poorly worded question. It’s something like, “it’s easy to get my job done around here”. Work is work. Go figure. Management gets in a tizzy because it always gets the lower score and nothing they try moves I it much. I’d say a middling numeric result is pretty darn good for the wording.

And correlation does not always mean causation is clear. It could be that happier men are more likely to get married than the marriage itself having that effect on them.

Back to your post title, I’ve noted many times that there are few women that actually want to be wives anymore. They want a husband and the status and security brings but don’t want any obligations or responsibilities that wives used to have.

Marriage was a compromise. Instead of the most attractive guys maintaining soft harems, they had to pick one. Then the other women lining for him could recalibrate down to the next tier of guys. Most guys could find a wife. Women gave up some of their power in their youth in exchange for security into their old age when they could no longer offer a man the possibility of babies.

We don’t have to teach women that marriage benefits them: that’s obvious. The trick is to get men to enter a marriage contract that most probably will be to their disadvantage at some point.

What I heard was that married people were objectively happier but only when the spouse was in the same room. When they werent in the same room they were less happy than single people.

Is it because if we stop encouraging the men to pursue commitment with women the marriage and relationship market collapses as a whole?

i reckon singlehood should be praised more, but it only works for those who have great friends in their life; that's why women tend to be more content at being single than men because of their friendship groups. this gap is what we need to address somehow; need to identify the root of why men make less close friends and work from there. perhaps if men changed their focus of pursuing sex they'll have more interest in pursuing male friendships.
