I used to be a feminist. Most of the people I knew were feminists, and I wasn't exposed to any anti-feminist ideas, so I adopted the ideology without thinking about it too much. I thought that feminism was synonymous with equality, and dismissed any instances of bias against men with "actually, that's because of the patriarchy." Over time I realised that most of my beliefs about gender issues were illogical and inconsistent, so I stopped being a feminist.

There are definitely some male feminists who fit your description, but I doubt it's the majority. Most sincerely believe that women are oppressed and that we live in a patriarchy, and aren't just pretending to be feminists to get laid.

I'm old and I once was a feminist. Feminists are working hard to indoctrinate young men so a lot of men who haven't been exposed to real life situations consider themselves feminists. To them it just means they're open minded liberals.

Don't be too hard on them. My son is a feminist. I discussed how some very extreme feminists want to get rid of the idea of building knowledge in STEM by studying the way a usual university teaches. Calc I then II then III. Knowledge builds on previous knowledge. Some extremists want there to be a sort of democratic or communistic teaching where everyone's opinion of a scientific fact is given the same weight. I'm a retired STEM scientist so to me this is horrible sounding. He was all for it.

His first girlfriend broke up with him easy, three weeks later he's on to someone new. Pretty soon he meet one he likes a lot and she'll break his heart. Then he will start to question his feminism.

I didn't alienate him by mocking him. I just disagreed. Hopefully he'll listen when life teaches him that feminism has a very dark side.

Luckily he's not the attack men type feminist, that would be hard for me to bear but even they will eventually realize the truth. I'd like to think this could be a place for these men to learn the truth of gender relations.

Attacking other men for having an opinion contributes nothing to men’s rights.

Although I agree it is difficult to understand why anyone would support feminism, it will be more difficult to gain understanding and support from male feminists, or anyone, using such shaming tactics that feminists must rely upon. Keep speaking the truth of the many evidences of injustices and inequalities faced by men and understand that these men will inevitably encounter these at some stage and will learn the hard way, whether first hand or as a witness, at that stage they will be in a position to understand that you were correct and more willing to acknowledge the truth.

I think it's worse than that in many cases. They have the child's need for maternal approval because they have never graduated to adulthood.

Maybe some think that way. However I believe most genuinely think we live in a patriarchy and women are oppressed because that's what's peddled everywhere. Nowadays men are told from a young age especially by some authority figure that they are the problem and they grow up trying to atone for being a bad guy. Even if not as a kid, media always exemplify the bad deeds by men and diminish the good ones. It certainly create the impression that men are the evil doers. At least that's what I think.

I’d say it has more to do with the fact that feminist culture has made it in a way that if you don’t say you’re a feminist that MUST mean you hate women.

Most of us men have grown up in a way that we treat women the same as men, we don’t discriminate based on sex and at the very least not consciously (because obviously social norms can affect us all), so the concept of labeling myself as a “feminist” just because I have basic human decency is alarming to me.

Its like saying I’m a non-agist agist because I dont go out berating older people, most people do not do this lol.

I actually think some men put feminist in their twitter bios so they can correct and talk over women by telling them what feminism is and isn’t.

I kid. I assume there are plenty of sincere Uncle Toms who will sell out their sex for no expectation of "reward" of female company. It's mean to say that is why they are feminists especially as it so obviously doesn't work. Feminist women have contempt for them. That's not a sexy emotion. Being docile and lacking in any self-respect is not the turn on you might think it is. Who knew?

I'd say I don't know why female feminists bother to put up with them except I know the answer is they don't a lot of the time. Feminists love their female only safe spaces where they can ban trans men and gay men and black men and any other male "allies" in the true spirit of "intersectionality" (correction: they just forget trans men exist and if reminded say "oh you're not really men; you can come"). Feminists love intersectionality in the same way Old Southern slave owners did.

Male feminists are often very aggressive with outsiders though. They fancy themselves as White Knights but of course they can't let themselves say that because that would be a sexist implication that feminist women can't handle their own shit. They're "allies" because they'll never be a part of the in group.

Some male feminists do NOT consider themselves allies. They're generally the only ones worth talking to. Monkey / Organ grinder.

They are not really that problematic. The feminist footsoldiers are the men whose retardation achieve escape velocity and launch them into becoming tools through which anti-male sentiments and policies can be implemented. These are the men who basically look at the feminist fantasy of a man as violent killers out to get them and act it out down to the letter.

These guys who are just yes-men drinking their lattes and occasionally self-flagelating aren't a big deal.

Most male feminists, and many feminists, claim that feminism, as defined in the dictionary, is only about equality of the sexes. But feminism is not a dictionary definition. It's a political movement, with a brand that has become so toxic and hateful, it actually espouses a culture of gender hatred that is the antithesis of its dictionary definition.

Pretending that the activism and ideology practiced by feminists are invisible, or hiden by the neatly sanitised definition that never leaves the page, is self-serving and disingenuous.

The misandry of the 200+ feminists who objected to the International Men's Day conference (2016; York University) on "Male Suicide", the misandry of the feminist law reformers who insist that female sexual predators are victims of the boys they abuse, the misandry of Dworkins, Ford, Solanas, these speak loudly of the meaning and practice of feminism.

While equality of all people regardless of sex, race, sexuality etc is a goal for all reasonable people, this goal will never be realised through feminism.

there are those who do it in hopes of getting laid, these are the ones I hate the most. then there are some who got fooled into thinking feminism helps them.

but without them, I'm willing to estimate feminisms influence would drop by 50%.

I'm a feminist by the standard definition of "the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes."

Note, "rights on the basis of equality". This ALSO includes the rights or a parent during child custody, the rights of a man during sexual assault case, the rights of spouse during sepration/divorce preceeding.

Twisting the definition of an established ideology to meet your strawman to attack doesn't change what it truly is.
