Unlike some stuff people post around here that reads more like depressed fantasy, this makes sense.

What is your point, though? Why is this important?

male attractiveness is roughly based on 3 separate things: physical appearance, social competence, and ability to provide resources. looks/money/status, sexy/funny/smart, athletic/fun/ambitious. if you ask a girl to describe what they're looking for in a man, they will almost always say some variation of those three things.

and women generally want a man who is at least better than average in all of these areas. if he is worse looking than average, or poorer than average, or more socially awkward than average, he will struggle unless he is exceptionally above average in one of those other areas. that's why sometimes very rich guys can get away with being ugly. or extremely handsome guys can be unemployed losers and still get women.

but if you want a guy who is at least above average in all three of those areas, that's not going to be 50% of men. it's going to be a significant smaller number. if those three factors were completely independent, it would be (50% x 50% x 50%) = only 12.5% of men are above average in all three of those areas. in reality it tends to be more than that.

but as a rough approximation, we can say that only about 20% of men will be above average in all of those areas.

meanwhile on the other side, female attractiveness is based almost entirely on her physical appearance. men DO NOT care about her social status or career success or any of that shit (at least the men who women are most interested in don't care about it).

so even if we go by a comparable standard and say that men want a woman who is at least above average, in this case it does work out to be about 50% of women are "good enough" in terms of attractiveness for most men to fuck.

so what does this mean? it means that all women are heavily competing with each other for the top 20% of men, while men are competing for about half of all women.

the men in the top 20% can be choosy because ALL women are competing for this relatively small number of men.

it means that if you're not at least in the top 20% of women, you shouldn't expect to have a monogamous relationship with a man who is above average in looks, money, and status. you will either have to lower your standards or agree to share him with other girls.

it means that approximately 1 in 3 women will be above average in looks and therefore will be considered attractive by most men, but still won't be hot enough to have a realistic chance with a man who is above average in the ways that matter. men will consider you to be attractive and will want to fuck you. but all the men who meet your minimum standards will have significantly better options than you.

I agree somewhat with what you have described, but I think the logic is not completely consistent. First of all, we've said we have an average looking man and an average looking woman. So looks wise that man and that woman are on the same page, and let us not account that the distribution of perceived attractiveness in men is not the same as in women. So I take being averagely attractive is also an dependency for the man to get an average woman. Now you've given us a list of dependencies that are not expected from a woman by a man. Men mainly care about physical attraction, which would make both of the last statements equivalent.

Loser women -> Unattractive women
Unattractive women -> Loser women

Thus: Loser women <-> Unattractive women

Obviously personality plays a role as well, but physical attraction is usually the variable that initiates a dating, which initiates a relationship in the first place, and for a relationship to exist, it needs to be initiated. A woman that looks like a 10/10 but that has 10 children and is $500,000 in debt would also be considered a "loser woman", but it's less likely to occur.

I assume that you're argument was that a function that's mapping men and women together is bijective, but I'd rather say that it's surjective in the favor of women. An average looking woman has far more options than an average looking man, with all other variables being ignored. So an average looking woman with shitty social skills, fashion sense and social status will be more likely to date an average looking man, than an average looking man with shitty social skills (etc) who will be less likely to date an average looking woman. And I've wasted too much time writing this bullshit ^^

Social status... you sure should not be talking about wealth and power instead of social status?

There are men who have wealth and/or power without social status who are considered really attractive to women (See most criminal men, or men who receive good jobs while being more or less anonymous, like investors)

Yet I can't remember any men who gets women attention, have social status but are poor and powerless. Like men who do voluntary work and have no wealth or power to speak of another example are those man who get social standing in church but never a paying/higher job in the group.

I have to find it, but there was a post on /r/askwomen from a while ago where they were asked to rate how important looks was to hookups 1-10. Most of everyone say that it was a 10 on how important it was.
