Weddings are a celebration. If you want one and you and your family can afford it, why not? I would rather spend the money in other ways, but I think judging what people think is worth buying is a waste of time.

No one says you have to have a fancy wedding, this is mostly just a fantasy. Why should you go into debt for a party? Most of the items at my wedding were borrowed or made. On the other hand a cousin's wedding cost them about 30k.

The wedding should be special because of who you are with and I think it's special for both the bride and groom.

But she is probably easier to market to and there's more profit in what she buys.

I don't see what this has to do with weddings? Weddings are what you make of them. It can be a week-long series of events with thousands of people. Or it can be you, your husband, and 2 witnesses in a courthouse. It can revolve around the woman... Or the man... Or both of them... Or their families might take everything over (as is normal in some cultures), in which case it doesn't really revolve around either one of them.

Friends of mine were married at "brickvention" today (it's a convention for Lego fans). I think it's a safe bet that it's what both of them wanted.
