You don't know what sacrifice means. Sacrifice doesn't require a bloody death on a stone altar. It means you give up something good in the present moment for something better in the future, or to someone else. Giving up my coat to someone who doesn't have one is a personal sacrifice - I'm fucking cold, but now they're warm. I don't need to die for it to be a personal sacrifice.

What relevance is bloodline.

You obviously haven't had a parent die, otherwise you'd see it differently. Perhaps you shouldn't be so opinionated on this point until a few years down the road.

Point is, you're asking responsible people to remove themselves from the future for the benefit of irresponsible people. Of course, you don't see it that way because you haven't thought this out thoroughly. Before you shoot another reply from the hip, just think about it:

What happens in 50 years if every environmentally-conscious person decided not to have any children? Who's left? The people who want to consume. In all likelihood, you're not doing the planet any favors. If you have a kid or two and teach them to be environmentally conscious then they can spread that knowledge to their children and all those around them.

VHEMT is simply a conceptual parasite. The idea gets in the mind of some hyper-agreeable people and makes them genetic dead ends, because it's not like you're going to pass it down to your kids - you won't have any. The responsible people die out, leaving no one to check and balance the people whose only goal is to consume. You want to level the planet faster? Do that.

If you aren't prioritizing fun, and you don't prioritize family (as you would if you were trying to have children of your own), what exactly are you prioritizing in your life?

We are simultaneously cooperative and competitive. Pro-social altruistic goals are very low in priority, and are not capable of fully sating your emotional needs. It may be that our planet is overpopulated, but the majority would prefer to be among those who breed and continue their existence in the more austere world ahead of us, most would rather reign in hell than serve in heaven. Without a mutual benefit to be obtained from the society you are embedded in there is no reason to act in a moral manner or follow social norms.

If there are no humans, VHEMT's ultimate goal, there is no social responsibility and no ecological responsibility.

You sound like a naive college girl

Why? And why wouldn't they be capable of satisfying people's emotional needs?

No. Because there is a very low and situational correlation between these pursuits and reproductive success, as opposed to actually finding an interested partner and raising a family. You have biochemical incentives toward reproduction and child rearing, and you will suffer for not pursuing and succeeding, as incel men and childless older women suffer. You do not have as strong biochemical incentives for volunteering at homeless shelters and eventually, if this is what you dedicate your life to at the exclusion of all else, life will feel hollow and empty no matter how much good you think you are doing. For all the stats that say parents are unhappier than singles (by what metrics?) you will often see that people's children are the biggest bright spot in their lives, it's what keeps them going, they find meaning in life through raising children and being part of a family.

I always thought that was a dumb analogy. You have to think about what "hell" would mean. In this case, no resources. Shortages, in short misery for those who are left. It's not a reality "today" in my environment or yours, but in any kind of "hell" is a situation where nobody wins. It'd be like buying nice knives and forks.....and no groceries.

This is usually a result of a tragedy of the commons kind of situation. Most people and animals struggle for survival until the bitter end, and so long as there are resources will continue to breed and not plan any farther ahead than they feel they have to. Even if the environment is going to shit, those who pursue their selfish reproductive interests will feel that they lived more adventurous, meaningful lives, while you will never be able to shake the regret at having sacrificed yourself only to have your place taken by those more ravenous, with stronger wills.
