MRP fails miserably with their dread game
Of course you're going to have missteps when you're taking guys who have forgotten how to be attractive and trying to make them attractive again. That doesn't mean the theory isn't sound.
it's nothing but trying to negotiate desire
You've identified the problem perfectly. Dread game doesn't work when it's transparently done to get your partner to have sex with you. It works when the focus is on you becoming a better, more attractive person for the sake of your own development.
Say you're managing two employees. One makes it clear that he wants a raise, and says he'll do a good job at work if you give him a raise. Maybe you give in if your back is against the wall, but you really don't want to play the carrot and stick game forever; you want an employee who'll do the job well because that's their role in this whole employer-employee partnership. They other guy does his job well because he wants to be good at his job, and you know that if he starts applying to other companies he's not going to be around long. Which one are you more inclined to give a raise to?

"Soft" or passive dread is a matter of working on yourself to the point where other women notice you and want to chit-chat/flirt. "Hard" or active dread is specifically going out of your way to flirt with women. Either way, it is done in the presense of your SO to A) signal that you have other options B) unleash the green-eyed monster to C) get her to put more work into vying for your attention/affection.
Personally, I think hard dread is a dick move but the theory seems solid IME. To the extent that it doesn't work is more indicative of her simply not giving a shit about you or your relationship.
It's much more difficult to run dread in a marriage because she has her claws into you and if you took advantage of any opportunity that presented itself, you are the cheating cad.
Similarly, you can't soft next your wife.

Well, that's TRP and I'm not going down that road, because
go to a strip club. Fuck one for around $140 max
That's not what i want, thanks. I would consider adultery partner though.
Do you have kids
Yup. I would be long gone otherwise.

Haha wtf is the difference?
that's TRP
TRP or TBP would tell you to get the fuck out of that relationship.
Meh, calling bs though. Married man with kids would be wiser than your "hurr durr Bp v rP". Plus you couldn't even tell us your age (cause you're 15). I mean if you're story's real and you come on here not willing to take any actions, whats the point?

Hm, good question. I am a bit romantic I guess.
Ultimatelly stripper is cheaper.

What is wrong in a marriage as it relates to sex is a very personal thing. When I say that I mean there will be no one script fixes all solution.
I agree you can't negotiate desire. However desire can take a backseat to other issues, so I don't particularly agree dread is a negotiation on desire, and I don't think chore-play is negotiating desire. I believe both would work, depending on the circumstances, it's really about identifying the root cause of the issue.
If we strip away all the methodology stuff dread at it's core is fixing someone taking you for granted. Which happens a lot in long term relationships I'm sure. People get comfortable and at some point we are all just chugging along. This is a case dread could absolutely work. It's a swift kick up the ass signalling to get into gear.
But if lack of sex stems from libido being affected by stress, fatigue or resentment, which all have a multitude of underlying reasons, kicking isn't going to fix anything.
We also here talk about value being subjective. This adds another layer of complexity to 'pulling their weight' as for right or wrong, what one person sees as a valuable contribution another doesn't. Some people place more value in time over money and vise versa. Expectation on sex can also differ, and within the bell curve there isn't anyone in the 'wrong' so blame placing shouldn't come into it. Communication is king of relationship issues at the end of the day, and everyone has to be able to compromise. Whatever you think of marriage councilors their job is to facilitate these things, and many more people could do with a lesson in it.
Edit; My ideal equality is partners contributing roughly the same amount of time to the relationship in their respective roles , with allowances and considerations for more wearing work requiring more recharging time, and how much free time each is comfortable with.

I am quite a catch, far from rich, but in the top 1% of salary band, giving it all to my family
Neither of you is quite the catch you'd be if you hadn't had kids already. I mean just saying. You gotta be realistic about that.
Have you considered going to marriage counselling together? Not saying it will save your marriage but it often helps a few things get said. You've probably not got a particularly accurate idea how she is calculating what she gives, what she takes, what she has brought, what she has sacrificed. These things are probably important. Maybe there's things she feels she has contributed or given up that you haven't factored in or actually thought were a positive to her, maybe she has no idea of the full extent of what you feel you have given up. If you've both been calculating with different metrics for years it is possible to get in an awful mess of mutual resentment and disappointment while both acting in good faith.

Cosidering circumstances that is. I provide a lot to the family. She could be much worse off with another man. I don't think she realises how good she's having it.
[–]rulenumber303 2 points3 points4 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I think you don't know what she realizes. I think you've done your calculations and just assume her balance sheet has to look somewhat like yours, that it is not possible for her to see things you don't see or not see things you see or see the same things you do but value them differently.
[–]fried_potato_brain[S] 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I've never done the balance sheet as I never found it important. However, this is a good point. I think she feels as I'm not pulling my half. The firs time she mentiones anything, we are going to have a talk.
There are two ways to evaluate how much one brings to the table:
*market value of the service provided *time spend doing x
Now, the harsh truth is, in terms of market value I bring in at least 2x as much as she does, if not way more. In terms of time, I believe we are close.
But if I bring the market value to the table, she will feel that "I don't respect her". On the contrary, she does not respect how much I bring!
[–]rulenumber303 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I've never done the balance sheet as I never found it important.
Load of nonsense, every time you say you're not being respected enough, or you have to do x/y/z too much or get to do a/b/c too little, you're doing some sort of balance sheet. You've been doing balance sheets all along.
Now, the harsh truth is, in terms of market value
Hahahahahaha so the marriage vows included "and always value my partner at market value"
But if I bring the market value to the table, she will feel that "I don't respect her".
Well no shit. If you want market value get whores, housemaids, paid surrogates, decorators, cooks, nannies etc etc and go without all the things that the market is really shitty at selling such as actually knowing you and working out when there's an emergency situation that has gone beyond your ability to summon a new form of paid help for. If being valued at market value and receiving only goods and services at market value was sufficient to your needs why did you marry? Why did you mess with someone who put her heart and future on the line, who was fucking you way back when because she liked it not because it paid well, if all you wanted was to buy stuff?
Look, if you can actually get her to open up (not necessarily an easy thing if she's come to think of you as a bit of a jerk) you might discover that she has opinions and perspectives on the situation you've never considered. Maybe she feels let down in ways that don't feature in your thinking.
If you can't manage to talk with her fully, frankly and without rancour alone, then hire help to do so. See a marriage counselor.

No, going to counseling is trying to negotiate desire. Dread game is "take it or leave it". It's the very opposite of negotiating.
I'm not going back to TRP, but damn, I'm not falling for the feminist agenda either. Where do I go.

Not really. Negotiating is finding an acceptable solution for both parties. Now if you go to counseling and have schedule sex (LOL) that is a negotiated outcome.
If you put a gun against someone's had and say you'll pull the trigger if they don't fuck you, they will fuck you, but you've done nothing but negotiated. The outcome "have sex" in this case is "acceptable"/negotiated deal for both parties. It is however far from love and true passion.

If you put a gun against someone's had and say you'll pull the trigger if they don't fuck you
And again, dread game is the opposite of this.
?? How ??
Fuck me or I'll start getting out and ultimately next you if you don't.
How is that not a gun to your head?

Because it's not "do x or I'll hurt you in some way". It's "if you don't do x I'll just go away". Do you seriously see no difference?
No, I really don't. Because "go away" to me equals "I'll hurt you in some way".
I'm really curious on how we see it so differently.

Where do I go.
Talk to your friends that have more harmonious relationships if you wanna try to fix it, otherwise just end it and aim for better luck in the next relationship.
I really don't know how many do. Mostly I see surrendered men. I'm not doing that.

R/relationships has a sound advice on this one - dump her
hat would severely impact my kids in a way it's not acceptable to me. I know they are better of now, even if our relationship sucks.
[–]Battle-Scars 1 point2 points3 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
You're modeling a shitty relationship model for your kids and they in turn will enter into shitty relationships. Kids are smart and perceptive, they know your relationship sucks.

Yes.
[–]Pope_LuciousSeparating the wheat from the hoes 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That's rough.
But you're not doing your kids any favors by staying in a shitty marriage where your wife walks all over you. And you're certainly not doing yourself any favors by staying in a shitty marriage.
Besides walking way from your toxic marriage? There's no pill for you here really. You really have to straddle the middle if that's what you want.
[–]ClarityofDisasterPerson Going Their Own Way 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
How long has your bedroom been dead (I'm assuming you mean "no sex" vs "infrequent sex")? Have you brought up the lack of sex to your wife, and if so what did she say? Does she acknowledge that it is a problem or does she dismiss it offhandedly?
The last time we talked about it was sometime mid summer. She promised to buy some nice underwear. She imrpoved for a week. Then came the holidays and one night she said, jokingly "ehh, the man can wait for another night". From there I stopped initiating and we didn't have sex for 3 months.
I brought it up recently and she blamed me for not initiating etc. She's just blind for all refusal she does (bofore the past 3 months, I have really given up now).
[–]ClarityofDisasterPerson Going Their Own Way 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
That sucks man. I know what it's like to go without any sex for 3 months at a time, and it really is a huge relationship downer. My lover at least has an excuse of intense seasonal depression during the winter though, which makes him very moody and uninterested in sex. Happens every year, not much can be done about it.
But in your case, it sounds constant rather than cyclic. The fact that she jokes about it would be a yellow flag to me, at the very least. It's one thing to acknowledge and talk about your lack of sexual desire like my guy does, but it's completely different to make light of it, especially when you know it causes discomfort to your SO.
What type of initiating does she expect from you? I don't know how long you've been married, has she never been the one to initiate?
She doesn't realise that if I come to her, start messing with her but and she freezes, that's me initiating and her rejecting. I think she only counts me initiating if we proceed to have sex, hence she has a huge bias.
[–]ClarityofDisasterPerson Going Their Own Way 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Damn. That really is a huge bias to get over. Have you tried other forms of initiating, like sexting her throughout the day?
[–]Alth12Purple Pill Man 0 points1 point2 points 8 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I think you need a sort of come to Jesus talk with her. I'd say just put your thoughts in order, sit her down , ask her not to interrupt and spell all your misgivings out to her.
If you're open and honest about it, but still firm, and she reacts badly or ignores you, it'll at the least tell you where you stand and provide the clarity of knowing the relationship is pretty much over.
I'd then go for a trial separation and move out. Sometimes that can be enough that the person acting that way gets an awakening to the cost of their actions and starts to open up and make an effort.
